i hafta wring an argumentative response of the question :is reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau today important exclusively as a matter of history, or does it provide insights into contemporary American society?

ok not only is walden pointless in my opinion..but incredibly boring. any help?

After reading your post and getting past the horrendous typos/grammar mistakes I have deducted that you have to write a paper about Thoreau's "Walden Pond"

I did this last semester. I thought it was incredibly boring the first time I read it. I still think so. I think "Civil Disobedience" is better. Thoreau's statements are so far "out of the box" that most people choose to disagree. It's actually interesting (I think). My teacher used the example of picking a rule that we thought was "unjust." Cell phones should be allowed in school. We think cell phones allow you to be more places and get more accomplished during the day. Thoreau might have said something like "cell phones make life more complicated and busy. Cell phones are taking away time for ourselves and our families." He does have a point in Walden as time passes and society technologically progresses, life does get more complex and we are not "spiritually/intellectually awake." That's what the transcendentalists said, right? American contemporary society is more complicated than it was in the 1850's when the transcendentalists were around. So I think it does provide insight to American Contemp. society.
