View Full Version : How low will the price of gas get?

There hasn't been a forum for gas prices in a little while, so...

Where I live in upstate NY, the current low is around $3.00.
It ranges from abour $2.98 to $3.08ish, but it's been dropping lately, like it normally does in the winter.
What're the prices near you right now?
How low do you think we'll ever see gas?

around cincinnati, ive seen as low as 2.48, its pretty awesome, i think the gas will begin to soar again after the election, just how it works it seems.

It's around $2.80 where I used to live in Missouri. It's been pretty cheap around here in Orlando, too.

3.25 is as low as i have seen it here. i'll be happy if it gets under 3

Not much lower. It's low right now because of the recession, but they are probably going to start to shut wells down and the price will go back up. Enjoy saving the extra $15-$20 for right now though

That's my guess.
I doubt it will get anywhere under $2.70-2.80 anytime soon..

Maybe in a few years, after Obama gets settled in the White House

This is kind of a difficult question to go with, since gas prices really do vary quite a bit across the country. Where I am in California, I'd been paying just shy of $5 a gallon. It's an extreme relief to now see prices averaging around $3.05, and I'll be genuinely shocked to see it drop much lower than that, if any lower at all. Whereas I know in other parts of the country, they're getting down to below the $2.50 mark. So are we talking overall nationwide average, or just for our own personal region for the low? I voted for the first option, based on my region.

hahahaha. hahaha. ha.

Historically, the prices will keep dropping until the late spring/early summer. Not sure that that will be the case this time, but prices often go down in the winter (while heating gas prices soar). There's also some speculation that, with the fuckfest that is the economy right now, gas prices are tanking with the hope that people will spend more elsewhere. Who knows if that will work.

Yeah, I said it. lol

True, gas does always drop in the winter.
Usually because of less car travelling is what Ive heard.

And Im skeptical about that whole "prices drop to spend money eveywhere else" thing.
If we're lowering prices, more people will buy more of it, but then prices will just be higher than they ever were once summer rolls around again.

Wow, our country's economy is in the crapper. lol

Good point, I should've specified.
I meant by region, then verify where you live in the replies or something?
And that bites that you were paying nearly $5 a gallon, that's rediculous.

It made getting out of the Central Valley a major luxury, and not one that could be afforded too often. The most obnoxious part is that the area I live in is very literally surrounded by functioning oil fields, and yet our gas prices were (I believe, though can't remember for sure) some of the highest in the country.

That sucks. It doesn't even sound logical.

It's all about the money, that's basically it.
Example.
There's a Mobil down the street from me, then there are a few different gas stations up the road. The price right now at Mobil is $3.11, up the road it's $2.98, $2.99, and $3.00. The prices at the other places have dropped around a quarter in just over two weeks. Mobil has dropped a dime.

everybody with gas under $3 is pissing me off. paid $3.05 today and that's the cheapest it's been here in months. and there are STILL gas stations here without gas, because everybody sees a station with "cheap" gas, fills up/tops off, and uses up the supply.

At the Mobils and Chevrons, it's still averaging around $3.19. At the Arco/AMPMs, I think it's around $3.10. At the mom and pop stations, it's around $3.05. It tends to make me worry that maybe there's a reason the mom and pop stations are so cheap, but shit. I have to drive around 150 miles a week, and I barely make more than minimum wage. I have to take the deals I can find and just cross my fingers it's not going to destroy my engine.

As much as I dislike it, I try to go to Mobil as much as possible for gas.
The other smaller stations are awful for your engine.

i Dont think it will get to low becuase then oil companys will just produce less. ANd because I no a lot of people on this website are idiots. Supply/demand=price. Lower supply then price goes up even if demand stays the same.

May I ask where? I live here and the lowest I've seen is 1.93 (which is a relief from what it has been but still too high) but if its still getting cheaper or already is somewhere else, I'd love to know. haha.
