1. I hate HH. I'm sure they are nice guys but it took them getting signed to victory to make me believe they were not a joke like Hearts that Hate.
2. I Love Mc Lars and Wilco. I have seen both live and they both are great live bands.
3. I'm sick of people who say "no one who listens to (band name) can honestly like (band name)"
I got into wilco when I was a kid because a gutter punk told me that their first cd blew his mind. This is a man with Crass tattoos and "fuck" tattooed across his neck. I mean christ dude its all music.
4. I just listened to the new Anberline cd. I am shocked by how good they got. Really hated that first cd.
5. New Mars Volta is insane. So is the new Joanna Newsome.

Haha news flash-- talent means nothing in this music industry anymore. The most simplistic and basic songs are the ones that tend to touch people the most. Basing songs strictly on how much skill they consisto of is skewed and elementary. You base music on how it sounds...if it sounds good and it's complicated, then that's cool, but if it sounds good and it's simple, then that's cool as well. If songs were based strictly on talent, this whole industry would be drained of all emotion and feeling.

limbeck, motion city soundtrack, the format, these enzymes, say anything, the get up kids, zolof the rock n roll destroyer, steel train, saves the day (all their cds but right now mostly in reverie), the unicorns, weezer (all cds), muse (absolution and orgin of symmerty), death cab for cutie (the newest cd, the rest bore me), andrew wk, the starting line (the new demos rock hard), days away ('the feel of it' ep, before they started getting horribly boring), everytime i die (only hot damn tho), piebald (all eyes, all ears...), kelly clarkson ("since you been gone" is way too good)

theres plenty more but thats my recent rockings. i agree that 'good' music is a ridiculous concept in general because its like saying "'normal' people". sure there is a mainstream, and sure there are 'scenes' (punk, hiphop, what have you), but good i obviously a subjective word. its like saying "steak is good", meanwhile a vegan might give you 600 reasons why steak isnt 'good'. oh well, lets not get all caught up in letters words and punctuation here

as a whole i agree that it is dumb to lump 'talent' and 'good music' togeather. examples of all the different possibilites (based on my opinions):

that was longwinded and contrived. i figure the listening to everything from christopher o'riley to the bronx to paul van dyk to rjd2 to mos def to the roots to wilco to radiohead to rufus wainwright to ambulance ltd to dizzee rascal, etc. would convey my mind being relatively "open" in terms of musical taste. further, who said wilco had complex songs? who said the velvet underground had complex songs? what about big star? have you ever heard the track "thirteen"? it's fucking brilliant and simple as shit (an equally simple, yet amazing track is 'come as you are' by nirvana). also, how can you go on a rant with completely patriarchal overtones and then end it by citing a guy who called me a twat? that's paradoxical. and talent does mean something in the world.
