As Gratitude (http://www.gratitudemusic.com) release their self-titled album today, I've got a news update from Jonah himself concerning the release, the process, and the relief. It can be found in the replies.

Hi all -

I'm really happy to announce that the Gratitude record is officially
released today, Tuesday, March 8, 2005. Hearing and seeing it all
complete feels so good. The artwork, by Rohner Segnitz, is stunning
and fitting. He used elements from the first pictures that were taken
of the band (thank you, Matthew Welch) and from the recording
sessions (the original tracking sheets, with all these little checks
and scribbles that show the songs taking shape, it's great, brings
back memories) to make a great companion to the music, and a great
piece of art in and of itself. Even the CD-Enhanced stuff (that you
see when you stick the CD in a computer) and the website (hi, Dalla
Villa) are gorgeous. We included some video from the recording
studio, from our first shows (thanks to Kristin Rozum for putting
together the portrait), and of course the video for 'Drive Away',
which also has elements of the ocean. Turns out the ocean is a big
theme for this band early on, which is fitting, cos there's nothing
that just forces me to feel grateful the way the ocean does.
The art dept. at Atlantic has been amazing the whole way through.
There's lots of other folks to thank on the road to this thing
getting out there, and they will be. Just wanted to focus on the
artists this time around, the people that helped to literally make
this.
Most importantly, the music itself really made it. It's simply songs,
well-recorded (huge thanks to Jim Scott, Chris Testa and Chris Holmes
-- Cello Studios RIP, so happy we got to make something there). It
doesn't sound like anything else to me. It's not like it's some avant
free jazz or anything, it just has this feeling to it that's unique.
It's about letting go, saying thanks, starting, ending, starting,
sticking with each other, taking care of ourselves.
Listening to the finished record, the songs that started this whole
band still give me that same sense of excitement that they did being
written, which is the best a band can do. We brought this into the
world. Please go get it. It should be in stores, let us know if it
isn't, and let them know too. (For digital folks, it's on iTunes, and
there's a non-album acoustic version of Drive Away there too.)
Int'l folks, there are release dates being set all over the world,
we'll keep you posted. We will be seeing you soon, via this record
and in person.
Okay, off to the day. More news soon (see you in Austin on 16 and
18!), but mostly, happy birthday.

I tried to get this this morning at Sonic Boom, which is arguably the best record store in Seattle, and they didnt have it in stock despite posters all over the walls for it.. So I guess this afternoon I have to get it at Easy Street which is now arguably the best record store in Seattle.

You're damn right it's impressive. This is one of my favorite albums of the year so far.

'Last' and "This is the Part' are my favorites.
