Point Break Called They Want Their Dumbasses Back

Over It (http://www.overitonline.com)'s in-store performance at Ventura, CA's Salzer's Record Store last night brought out not only the band's hardcore fans but a rowdy gang of Ventura surfers who apparently have a beef with the fact that the popular pop-punk 4-piece titled their newly-released CD, Silverstrand, in honor of a local beach of the same name.

Earlier in the day, an in-store display promoting the band's appearance was vandalized and tagged with the initials of the local surf gang and the suspects returned later during the band's set to cause trouble.

After exchanging heated words mid-set, several of Over It's friends and fans helped to calm down and escort out the small but unruly group.

As they exited and attempted to drive off, local authorities arrvied on the scene and detained several of the suspects for further questioning.

Originally hailing from the east coast, Over It moved to Ventura County (just north of Los Angeles) in 2003 to be closer to the thriving Southern California music scene. Although the band currently resides in Orange County, the sleepy beach town of Ventura (and more specifically, Silverstrand and what it represents to the band) is at the heart of the new CD.

In explaining the reason for the new album's title, singer Peter Munters offers, “The name in itself is directly a memorial to the stretch of Ventura county beach that first welcomed us to its soothing shores, but to us it’s the symbol and source of more meaning than the sight of majestic oceanfront views alone. It reminds me everyday that life, for all its vastness, is balanced on so many fragile, beautiful threads. The thread of melody, the thread of mistakes and lessons paid for by doubt and misstep, the thread of friendship we’ve carried as we’ve made our way through so many memorable places...Silverstrand is the story of the last three years and our attempt at expressing our gratitude for all of these adventures in song.”

SURF GANG??? i spent the first 18 and a half years of my life growing up in hawaii and i've never heard of a fucking surf gang in my life! i mean, it makes sense to get pissed off if someone drops in on you, cuts you off, whatever. but otherwise it's just ridiculous, these guys were definitely just trying to be dicks. i'd be honored if an artist decided to title their album after something or someplace in hawaii that meant something special to them.

anyway i'd just like to recommend that whatever you do, just don't base your opinions of surfers (or people from hawaii, for that matter) on what you see in things like the movie "blue crush" or tv show "north shore"..... not everyone has vast farmlands of weed which they protect with shotguns or beat people up if they're white and surfing on a "local" beach.

Long forgotten rock group The Butthole Surfers, who until recently had scored a total of one hit, have finally found their way back into the mainstream - pop punk. It's believed that the Surfers will begin writing songs for their forthcoming album with producer Pete Wentz, noting that the inspiration for their comeback comes from the recent slanderous claims that the Surfers are in fact "unruly" and "troublemakers". Although the group were known for wild outings on tours such as Lollapalooza, they insist in no way are they "those" types of surfers, nor are they in fact "buttholes".

beau didn't mix those "bsides" .. most of those are rough line mixes from Mike Green. Beau only actually mixed one, maybe 2 songs (siren on the 101 and city lights [i think]) for the band ... and no one has them because they never surfaced because the cameron webb mixes are ALOT better.

so, how about before saying shit, trying to act like a bad ass, and pretend to be "in the know" ... at least have the facts.

two friends of mine moved to Oahu two years ago, and both of them said that they have seen groups of people become violent, another term for that would be gang, after someone had dropped in on them or even if they just didn't like they were surfing their beaches. i mean would i say they are starting gang wars against the crips? no, im just saying there definetly are groups of people who kind of lay claim to a certain area and protect it sometimes to ridiculous lengths
