Ted Leo (http://tedleo.com/) has filmed a live video cover of Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" and with a small piece of Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps" tossed in there too. Check it out here (http://www.ugo.com/channels/music/ugoplayers/player.asp?articleID=14006). (It's under the "Music" featured section)

You know what I already didn't hate this song. Much more tolerable than the majority of top 40 out there. Or maybe I just like seeing Kelly Clarkson throw stuff around a room. Whatever. One hell of a cover by Ted, but seriously, did you expect it to not be good? Its fucking Ted Leo man!

Its only a matter of time before he gets huge exposure and starts popping up everywhere. Honestly there is no way the industry can keep his musical brilliance hidden this well for much longer. No matter how much 50-Cent they shove down the masses throats...this is gonna catch on.

I can't be the only one out there that wants to see some kind of collaboration of Ted Leo, Butch Walker, and Ben Folds. I doubt this could ever happen because the results could level a couple city blocks with its greatness. I think the casualties caused by this would be worth it for an EP.

If you haven't heard Ben Folds recent cover of "Bitches Aint Shit" I suggest you drop whatever you are doing to find it.

Seriously, download it, it's better than Ted's cover (and I have a man-crush on him)

wow judging from the rest of the replies i'm definitely not alone like i thought i was but i definitely like that kelly clarkson song. it's just so catchy and her voice sounds really good on it. it's even passed the level of a little guilty pleasure becuase i listen to it all the time. so strange becuase i hate pretty much everything else on the radio right now. proof that you just never know what is going to catch your ear.

edit: and i like her version alot better than this cover.

I am in accord with you. She's got some really good pipes, definitely more talented than a lot of the vocalists out there right now (ie. Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson). Whoever wrote that song wrote a hit. I liked her last single too so she should keep her writers.

i don't have cable or ever listen to the radio, so i didn't hear that kelly clarkson song until she was on snl, but i thought it was really really good. it was nice to see a pop star singing live AND sounding just great. it made me want to check out her most recent album, but then i forgot. maybe i will now...

ted leo's is good, too...but i agree with the people who said clarkson's is better. i like the little yyy's cover thrown in though.

every single one of my friends (myself included) love the kelly clarkson version of since u been gone. and yes the majority of us are into indie rock and mostly hate today's pop music. i'm a big ted leo fan, but i think i'd go with kelly's version as being better. and i'd also like to second that ben folds' cover of bitches ain't shit is fucking awesome.

I like the original too, but I nearly busted my side when the guy a few posts above was giving props to whomever wrote the song. I don't think I will ruin it for him but it was a colaboration with someone who most people on here despise.

that was soo fucking amazing. all of these songs are.. especially acoustically. i NEED an mpr.

and the fact that he went into maps was fucking great since the actual song's breakdown is a COMPLETE rip off of the break from 'Maps' ...

it was written entirely by max martin. the dude behind a crapload of backstreeet boys, n'sync, britney spears etc. hits. still a good tune though.

It was written by Martin Sandberg and Lukasz Gottwald. "Doctor Luke" is a guitarist for the SNL band and Martin Sandberg (AKA Max Martin) wrote a bunch of hits for *N Sync, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, etc, namely "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," "As Long as You Love Me," and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)."

Coincidentally, I know the dance to "Everybody".

You heard it here first.

I thought it was him but I wasn't positive. Even though he's just riding what is currently popular (bringing more rock into pop music) this song is still better than most because of her voice.

I never learned the BSB dances, but I can still sing all of their good songs (or what I thought was good, anyway) without missing a word, AND I still know all of their voices and who sings each part in the songs. I think it may be why I have trouble retaining important info for school. Admitting that makes me feel like a loser.

Yeah I'm not suprised. Most big pop hits are churned out by professional songwriters like this. Example: Jerry Lieber and Mike Stohler in the 50s and 60s and all the Brill Building songwriters

Very true.

haha, how funny you say this: Tony (my roommate) and I play this game where we go back and forth naming things in different categories, and the first to get one wrong or not have an answer loses.

Because of this fateful game, I know the first and last name to almost every member of every boy band.

I think I top you in the loser category.

And to add to that wonderful list, the man himself, Phil Spector.

Okay, so have you ever went off of what someone said and just assumed it to be true? Well, that is what I did when I set up the speculation on who wrote that song. I am not even going to tell you who I was told it was. I already feel like an ass...and even worse I hate being wrong! I should stick to commenting on punk rock where you don't have to worry about who wrote the song...usually.

This is true, but the majority of the songs he produced he co-wrote, especially a lot of The Crystals ("Then He Kissed Me" and "Da Doo Ron Ron") and Ronnettes ("Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You") songs. And come on, he co-wrote "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'". That should at least give him some songwriting praise.

As you can tell I'm on a 50s/60s pop kick, all thanks to Stephin Merritt.

Yeah but most producers get songwriting credits for albums they work on, like Berry Gordy and all the Motown songs, etc. I mean not to take away from what he had done but its not like he straight up wrote those himself. He was also a huge nutcase.

Yeah true. I never thought about that. I just usually see his name in the credits and assume he co-wrote.

I know nothing about him as a person, but this nutcase theory makes me want to investigate.

He routinely had a gun with him in the studio and has held the Ramones and several other bands at gunpoint before. He's also going through a court case for supposedly murdering someone right now.
