Are you fucking crazy???
Ray Cappo:
Youth of Today
Shelter
Better Than A Thousand

Walter:
Gorilla Biscuits
QUICKSAND
CIV
Rival Schools
Walking Concert

I rule in favor of Wally on this one!

This had better be sarcasm. GB is probably the best band EVER posted about on this site.

He said "of hardcore"...I'd hardly call Quicksand or Rival Schools hardcore, and I could never get into CIV (never heard Walking Concert)

Therefore, this should be solely a YOT / GB debate

And I think it goes to YOT (Ray Cappo) in a heartbeat

Nah, I love YOT, but GB's influence is still being felt today more than ever. With out GB, no Lifetime, no Lifetime, no STD, no STD, no mainstream emo....

How can you not get into CIV, Set Your Goals is Start Today II. Wally wrote and produced everything.

YOT definitely influenced modern hc bands like Comeback Kid and With Honor, but GB's influence is WAY bigger.

Maybe in a broader sense, yes, GB has a more lasting effect, although, I'd argue that Quicksand had more of an effect on mainstream emo than GB, but that's a whole nother convo...

I don't know why I can't. Just was never feeling it.

So, if you're going to place the brunt of the modern emo movement on GB's shoulders (which I think is extremely exaggerated, the movement would have been fine without STD), I can place a lot of the influence of the rejuvenation of straight edge on YOT. By the late 80s it was starting to fizzle a bit, but because Ray Cappo was so militant, he really brought out a new breed of edge kid and virtually spawned every youth crew, sxe band from the late 80s all the way through now. Obviously there were other bands along the way that helped this along, but the same could be said for your comparison.

Quicksand has definitely had a profound impact on so many bands its disgusting. YOT definitely had a huge impact on sXe in the late 80's but that's not what we were talking about. GB influenced music WAY more. Walter is a brilliant song writer. GB was undoubtedly one of the biggest influences in the writing of Hello Bastards though I will say you can hear some Wig Out At Denkos in there too. STDs first album was a direct rip off of Hello Bastards and, like it or not, they were one of the front runners in the mainstream emo genre. No STD, no Thursday or TBS. There's an almost direct lineage.

We can even talk about Ray and Walter's follow-up projects if you want, but again Walter wins. Slip has impacted many more bands than Perfection of Desire.
