Jumpercable – EP
Record Label: Monkey Wrench Records
Release Date: August 08, 2008
Who?
I don’t know the last name of anyone in Jumpercable, and perhaps that’s a good thing. Their brand of fast, fun and short hardcore is truly an everyman’s genre. 9 songs in 10 minutes doesn’t allow for many “Let me introduce myself” moments. They are who they are, and hey, good for Jumpercable.
How Is It?
Other than the tripped out, colorful album art, EP runs through with little exaggerated flair. After the brooding and instrumental intro (cleverly titled “D(Int)R(O)Agonaut”), the album opens with “Hey Lame-O, Get Out of My Yard”, a pounding number that slows only to reemerge with crushing drums and sloppily yelped (it’s a good thing) vocals. However, the most impressive feat by Jumpercable is that “Ricky Butler Says”, a 36 second track, steps it up as the album’s best song with its nostalgic lyrics and heartily-screamed gang vocals. You’ll be yelling “State lines / We crossed late last night” by the second run-through. “A Week In Jonestown” opens with a bumbling bassline until predictably erupting into noisy guitars and especially high-pitched screams. The album’s drums (especially the double bass on “Ray, This Is Walter”) seriously help this band in the arena of memorability. Inventive cymbal usage, restricted bass pedal and mad speed all show an attention to detail commonly skipped over when concocting an album that’s the length of a commercial break. If speed and aggression are your things, or if you are competing in a destruction derby later today, Jumpercable should be right up your bum-infested alley.
Recommended If You Like: CIV, Ten Yard Fight, dead bears?, In My Eyes, tie-dye?
