played with them earlier this year in Montana. Not only an amazing band, but a great show as well! Connie wasn't there, but it was still an awesome show. Highly recommend them.

this band never really did anything for me.
maybe it's his voice or maybe the lack of cohesiveness i felt with meaning of 8.
just never really understood it.

So, since their music is in a car insurance commercial, are they sellouts?

I'm pretty sure most of their proceeds go to charities so I would not classify them as sell-outs. They don't appear to be a band that gives a shit about making a buck for personal benefit.
But anyway, it took months to do it, but I finally did. I have checked out Feel Good Ghosts. Wow, what a creative album. With every listen it seems to be climbing up my top 10 of 08 list. I'm surprised this album has not been reviewed on this website.

To me, Feel Good Ghosts felt like a bit of a step backwards for Cloud Cult. Everything up until that point seemed like it was constantly progressing but FGG just felt weak in comparison to The Meaning of 8 and even Advice from the Happy Hippo.
I do love Will of a Volcano and When Water Comes to Life though.

It might be an odd comparison to some but FGG reminds me of The Matches newest album, A Band in Hope. They don't really sound alike but the vocal/instrumental experimentation reminds me of one another. Plus both bands sort of shit on the idea that formulated song structure make for a good song. But yeah I guess the album hits everyone different. I like it just as much as TMo8, if not a little more.

They've got much, much better songs than the esurance one. My personal favorite is "Your 8th Birthday". Saddest. Song. Ever.

YES! I don't know if it is my favorite song but its close. When they belt of those Kaiden's you fuckin feel it. So sad. It sucks that amazing music had to come from such a horrible experience.

The opening, the droning the chords, the lyrics, THE CHORUS. Everything about that song is perfect. I love how he singing is very controlled throughout the song until he sings, "Who could change my sleepy brain into the eye of a hurricane" when his voice loses all it's control, breaking down into a near scream, just before regaining control. It's such a lament. I even named my music project after a line from the song (Traffic Jam Parades).
Can't hype that song enough. It changed the way I listen to music.

That hurricane line when the vocals just start to break up gives me goosebumps every time. I am honestly surprised there isn't much talk of this band on this site. Someone needs to send one of the staff members their last two albums to review.

Very true. Cloud Cult is painfully underrated.

I'm surprised that only guys have posted in this thread so far. Where I come from, Cloud Cult is overwhelmingly enjoyed by females. I don't think I've ever met a guy in real life who identifies himself as a Cloud Cult fan.

I love 808's. It's so rare to see experimentation in mainstream hip-hop.

Definitely. I like it for one of the same reasons I like Cloud Cult. It creates a atmospheric mood. I get sucked in. Good winter music.
this band is sweet. I'm stoked to see them at coachella.

Advice from The Happy Hippopotamus is a great album, as is Aurora Borealis. The last two have been steps backwards, I think. Great band regardless.

Cloud Cult is pretty good.
Funny how the song "Moving to Canada" comes right after "What It Feels Like to Be Alive" haha.
Edit: New album August 17th apparently? Excite.

'Light Chasers' was previewed tonight and sold to fans at listening part in Minnesota. The album goes for sale on their website this Monday :) I know this post was old but I figured I would send out an update because I'm very excited.

CLOUD CULT! favorite band. in a probably obnoxious effort to bump this thread, let's rate albums:
ah shit. I'm just going to briefly and self-indulgently talk about my love of this band. heard Fairy Tale on the Current around 2006 and scribbled the name on a piece of paper while driving. got They Live On The Sun. I was currently in a weird-ass phase of recording full albums to blank cassette tapes, rather than just using a car tape adapter, so I just listened to that damn tape over and over and over and over again. while it's probably not my favorite album of theirs, it holds a special place in my heart. and I'll be damned if Sleeping Days isn't the most heartbreaking song I've ever heard. no hyperbole.
I could keep going, but I'm just going to conclude that every single live show is a religious experience. if you ever have a chance, see them. life-changing.
favorites in order:
the Meaning of 8
Advice
Feel Good Ghosts
They Live On The Sun
Aurora Borealis
Light Chasers
Who Killed Puck?
Lost Songs
