well not being a pathetic horny desperate teen, no, in the context of said sitcom I don't see the need for the "unattainable hot neighbor, who will eventually fall for the geek" side story. The show, at least this season, is better then that. And Cuoco, Penny, is an awful actress who hasn't been believable since episode one.

I think it context with the sitcom it works well because a.) she's the exact opposite of Leonard and b.) every semi-decent show with a girl and a guy has a "will they/won't they" factor. I think it serves its purpose because no matter what in the end you want the nerd to get the girl.

And as for Cuoco being "awful"--I'm not sure I would classify her as awful but not believable? What? She's blond, she's attractive, she's the opposite of all them and she's their neighbor. What's there to believe?

Yes, I did! But I also think of him as Samuel Anders from Battlestar Galactica, so sometimes I called him "Hot Uncle Anders". I really like the actor, he plays a great asshole. He was also on SVU last week as a date rapist. Amazing.

Life is in my top five favorite shows at the moment. Charlie is such a likable guy, and you can learn a lot from him.

Life tries to have different plots than regular cop shows, I guess. It's more about revenge, and rebirth, then something like SVU's plot where they catch the guy, put them on trial and that's it. But I can see where you're coming from.

I agree. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't. I got a cousin with special needs who knows of some kids with Asperger's, he describes a couple of them to have a number of the same traits Sheldon has. But I have a feeling that CBS is going to intentionally not touch on that issue with a 50-foot pole.
