The Last Almanac – A Memoir
Record Label: Appeal Records
Release Date: January 1, 2008

Who?

The guitarist from Augustana started this band, and you’d never be able to tell that it’s the same dude. They’re that brand of indie that borrows little bits of influence from country and even bluegrass (think Lazlo Bane‘s Scrubs theme song - where he's no super man- but with a way heavier Mellencamp influence.) Basically, they’re from Nashville, TN and they sound like they’re from Nashville, TN.

How is it?

It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to hear it. There’ve been plenty of acoustic-y Springstein-punks, and lots of them (like Carpenter) can catch your attention a lot quicker, even if there seems like a bit more authenticity (a little bit less punk) in The Last Almanac’s brand. Still, you’ve got to love the straight forward theme of drinking (“Barstool Loyalty”, and the even more blatant “Pour the Liquor”). Looks like The Last Almanac are planning a boy’s night out, and you’re invited.
