Yeah that's a good set. I've also wanted to see The Killers for a while now.

On Friday night, October 24th, I was fortunate enough to go see my favorite band, "The Killers." The performance was at the relatively small Hammerstein Ballroom, located on 34th and 8th. Accustomed to playing much larger shows (they had no trouble selling out nearby Madison Square Garden), seeing them at this 3,600 capacity venue was truly something special. The group has been playing a few smaller shows in promotion of their upcoming 3rd studio album, "Day and Age," set to hit stores November 25th. The band has promised to return to the pop/synthetic rock sound of their Grammy nominated first album, "Hot Fuss," that has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The group had faced some criticism (not by me of course!) for ditching their catchy, synthetic tunes for a more Springsteenish, arena-rock style sound in their second album, "Sam's Town."
The Killers started the show with their hit single, "When You Were Young." The strum of the first chord instantly injected energy into an eager crowd…energy that the band had no trouble maintaining throughout the show. The group pounded out all of their hits, including "Mr. Brightside," "Somebody Told Me," "Read My Mind," and "Bones." They played 4 new songs, and the highlight of the show was when they came on for the encore and played the first single "Human" from their upcoming album. The song is already out on the radio and is featured in the new Blackberry Storm commercials (it's the technoish sounding beat that comes on after the Blackberry is picked up and the commercial fades out). If you've been watching the baseball postseason, sponsored by Blackbery, you've surely seen it
The band ended a fun, 90 minute set with "All These Things that I've Done." The lead singer, Brandon Flowers, stood on the front speaker of the stage and held the microphone out to the audience as the crowd sang an extended version of the best part of the song; "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier…" This was my 3rd time seeing the band and they simply have been getting better every time. They have really turned into a great live show, their new songs sound really cool, and I would strongly recommend trying to see them when they officially go on tour for their upcoming album beginning in January, 2009.
