When Palin was a PTA president, she’d never been a mayor before. When she was mayor, she’d never been a governor before. And by all accounts she’s been a massive success each time she’s stepped up to the next level (a ridiculous 80% approval rating). No surprise then that she’ll make a great veep, after stepping up from gov.


18 million people thought Hillary Clinton would make a fine PRESIDENT OF THE US — A PRESIDENT! — and she’s less qualified that Palin! Clinton’s been 1) a first lady for about 20 years and 2) a senator for about 6. If that qualifies her as the leader of the free world, then certainly being governor of one of our states qualifies Palin to fill the vp role. Good grief.


Which was pretty funny. But no website I go to, (nor Republican forum) will tell me on reason why Palin would make a good president. They either say "She'll make a great president because she has great values." or "She's just like a regular american hockey mom." or whatever. I'm seriously getting annoyed with this.

Tell me why the other person would make a good president." It's really... ughh.

It sounds like he's trying to make it a black and white issue when its clearly not. It is all dependent on each persons views. If you don't think they'd be a good President then there is nothing else to write. I'd save yourself a few hours and just write I don't think she would, you could give examples as to why she wouldn't. When he questions it, tell him that's your view, how could you make a case for something you don't believe in?

If you aren't well informed enough to make a decision based on where both candidates stand, then you really shouldn't be voting. I know you can't vote cause you're only 14, but when you get of age to vote, if you just vote for one candidate without being informed about the other, you're being ignorant. Voting straight across the ticket just because it's your party affiliation without checking their stances first is bad- no matter which side you're doing it for.

As for reasons why she would make a good president. Since you're only in middle school social studies, I would assume if you give broad reasons you'll be set. That she already has executive experience, where as none of the other candidates do. She is a Washington outsider that could bring change to the gridlock in Washington. It can be argued that her policies on health care (and I'm using McCains here because their policies are one in the same) are more realistic than her rivals plan, and her economic program isn't bad (not as bad as Dems make it out to be), especially if we can cut the massive weight that is the War. Then, you can make the argument ofcourse that since she has a son in the military she will take military decisions to heart knowing that it could be her child she's condemning to death rather than just some random solider (something Biden can say, not obama).. Stuff like that should be sufficient enough for your class.

Ultimately though, if you enter anything with your mind made up before doing research, you're doing yourself a great disservice.

Just take the stats there and spin them into an opinion. It shouldn't be too hard. Just talk up her executive experience, her command of a budget and a militia, and her family relationships to the military and just disregard the obvious argument of "yeah, but it was a state of 670,000 people".



Edit:: You can mention the fact that Hillary Clinton botched National Health Care Reform in 1993 as the head of the council on reform. That her plan was similar to Obama's and that due to the fact it couldn't pass a heavily democratic congress then at a time when war wasn't an issue, it couldn't pass now when there are certainly bigger things (the shitty economy, a heavy weight that is the war) out there. So Palin's plan is the more realistic, atleast for the time being.

That's true. I wouldn't consider her for a senator from Alaska let alone president of the United States. But I guess I was looking at it a bit more simplistically than you were. She has characteristics that would make her a good president, that is no doubt. But there is little out there as to what they are and how she would go about being the president.

1) She'd protect marriage.
2) She'd save businesses the millions it would cost them if they were forced to give women equal pay
3) She'd cut down on government spending by allowing citizens to pay for their own needs, rather than spending government money helping (things like health care, rape kits)
4) She'd keep this Christian nation on it's righteous path
5) She'd leave us without a deficit by freezing all spending except war funds and special education programs
