Gratitude's sales will pick up once they get some exposure. Great album.

Gratitude are featured in the newest Rolling Stone as one of the Artists to Watch for 2005. They got it right last year with My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, so I'm sure Gratitude will get some big exposure.

I think all of those numbers suck except for Mars Volta. Think of how many months they worked on that shit and to only sell 1300 records on the week it's out has got to be a huge dissapointment.
NOT miniscule when you figure there were only 6000 piece out on the shelves...its not like they shipped 50K...
its close to 25%...thats HUUUUUUUUGE
think about it like this....if youre a kid who goes into the store and you walk in and see a whole endcap of taking back sunday, and you cant find Over It, because it is burried in the "O" section-what are you gonna buy???
much more to buying a record than just pure sales

Those Gratitude sales look very disappointing. I went into a few stores looking for it and ended up walking out with Dropkick Murphys - Singles Collection Vol. 2. It was funny how DKM could have ample copies in stock while Gratitude had zero copies in stock. Gotta love the big label backing on Gratitude.

500,000 is gold.
500K gold
million is platinum
PS-over it sold 1300 right?? indie label, no airplay, no video, just word of mouth
gratitude sold 2800, MAJOR label, airplay, and didnt we see them on TRL with pierre from simple plan? that alone should have sold them a few extra units....

Yeah, Gold is 500, 000.
And to that one guy that said that Gratitude was getting bad backing only because you walked into ONE store and couldn't find it; I'm pretty sure you can't judge based on that one place you tried to buy it at.

Most of these kind of bands won't get stocked in many record stores. Just buy then online. Cheaper, and easier, usually.
And I was unaware the over it pressed only 6000 copies, I retract that statement.

It wasn't like I walked into a store and couldn't find it, it was 7 since I was at my parents house.
Plus, I didn't know that so many were sent out. And yes, I did order it online since I couldn't find it. But my whole thinking was that with major label backing that it would be easier to find.

Technically, Mars Volta is already Gold...Strummer Records have sold and shipped 500k+ copies of the disc to stores.

-Over is on Lobster Records, distributed by Sony/Epic Red
-Gratitude is on Atlantic, distributed by WEA (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic)
-Mars Volta is on Strummer/Universal with 500k+ copies shipped
-Norma Jean is on Tooth And Nail distributed by EMI
That's really really solid distribution for all of those bands.

Frank! Thanks for posting this, I always look forward to the cd sales part, by any chance do you have any clue how Forever Changed did (Floodgate Records), There honestly seems like a chance they could have outsold Over It.
Also, yeah Mars Volta is doing well, very well! But check out Norma Jean 25,000+ copies scanned now, thats ridiculous for them! God bless Norma Jean!

did ATDI even sell that much?

ATDI was superior to The Mars Volta. They should've sold more.

Congratulations to the boys of Over It! It's only up from here...
If you haven't heard that record yet, get over to PureVolume. Silverstrand is solid.

actually when you ship 500k, its gold. its shipping that gets the awards. and at the drive in's last album actually went platinum, which seems weird but you gotta remember how popular they were for awhile. over it's opening numbers arent that bad..im sure they will sell a ton over the summer..but gratitude has to be bummed. 2800 copies sold, opening week, on a major? not to mention alot of big stations arent picking up the single

Im sorry to dissapoint you but they only sold 253...over it would have been #34 on the new artist chart, but....the record wasnt registered and therefor its gonna bite the band in the ass...BIG TIME...a band who worked sooooo hard for sooo long on this record, and one person in the distro portion didnt set it up

Lobster's doing extremely well promoting Over It's cd for a small indie label. Its such a shame someone bigger didn't pick this up to release it. Sad thing is none of my local indie stores or even Best Buy had the disc.
