This show is amazing. By far my favorite TV show of all time. I've got all the seasons on DVD, and I'm working on watching Season 3 for the first time since it all aired on FX. Season 4 is solid so far, it looks like it's going to stay as one of the best shows around. Don't get me wrong, I love Adult Swim stuff/Family Guy, but this is different. This show is wonderfully written.

I don't know, I thought last nights episode kind of lost its edge.....It was good, but not as 'in your face' entertaining as the previous seasons.....But I guess its only one episode, but it’s still not a good start.

Like all great show this one went down hill in its later seasons (this one was particularly bad), but tonight’s episode was an exception. It gave me hope that the next 10 will be worth the wait.

I just knew someone was going to die….i just assumed it was going to be Vic not Lem. Man i didn't see that coming until right before it happened.

seriously during the whole lem/shane thing I was like "oh shit, there's no way he'd do that. fuck he's gonna do it. no he wouldn't." I was just in awe of that scene, one of the best scenes in the entire series.

They would never kill off Vic until the end, I wish Shane would've been the one to go though.

Big question, does anyone know if Forest Whitaker is will with them next season?

dude...that episode was unbelievable...and in a bad, bad way...i felt sick to my stomach after shane killed lem...and lem being alive still...and calling shanes name right before it blew after he realized what shane had just done...it was heartbreaking...this next season needs to be the shows last...the last 2 seasons haven't been shit compared to the first 3...the good old days, the strike team in full swing doing corrupt shit and coming up with crazy awesome ways to pull it off...

This season has been great because everything they have done came back to haunt them and cost Lem his life in the end. Whitaker helped make this the best season yet.

I looked around and it looks like Whitaker still has two more episodes on his contract. Yes.

He's signed on for 3 of the 10 episodes.

I heard he was signed for 13 episodes, but this season was only 11. Either is great though.

The other thing I read was that there are 21 episodes left in the series, not sure if that is true though.

Felt like bumping this. I also love the show, and it's returning on September 2nd... less than one month from now!!!

This finale is going to explode, so many various conflicts over the years between Vic and everyone on the team, and judging by the previews he even butts heads with his family.

I just have to post this article (http://www.cleveland.com/tv/index.ssf/2008/07/the_shield_will_end_its_run_wi.html ) too.

Best part of the article if you're too lazy to look: "I think it's the greatest finale ever that you'll see anywhere -- hands down,'' says CCH Pounder, who plays veteran detective Claudette Wyms, the character closest to being the moral compass for the dark police drama. "It blew my socks off. . . This finale is what Vic Mackey deserves.''

This is such great news. So often I read interviews and the actors just beat around the bush, but Pounder can't contain her enthusiasm it seems, which is a great sign. Only question is, what does Mackey deserve?

Off to a fantastic start this season...Ronnie came un-hinged and took matters into his own hands. I see a showdown between him and Shane in the near future, which would be amazing. Also very interested to see how the pact between Vic and David rolls on, cause I get the feeling they're both gonna get screwed big time before it's all said and done.

sevinw0rds
09/03/08, 09:26 AM
Yeah, I'm re-watching the whole thing to try and remember the details but I'm only halfway through Season 3. Either way, I remember the prominent points from S6 being that the Armenians were on to the Strike Team, Vic was about to be flushed out, Vic and Ronnie despising Shane, and the plethora of dirt Vic and Dave found on those city officials. I'll piece the rest together by the next episode.

I thought it was kinda funny that they had a fed in the barn who was relegated to the background and not adding much to the plot...but yeah, shit just got intense with that bomb drop. "... i've done worse."

i have such a hardon for the finale. i sort of want it to end like "the departed," but at the same time, i can't wait to see what shawn ryan comes up with. plus, i wanna see what happens with gardocki, as he's really been the only constant likable character for me over 7 seasons. from the promo, it looks like vic's in the interrogration room, so perhaps ronnie could've implicated vic in something he didn't confess to as part of a plea deal. my boner is evident.

mht
11/18/08, 10:36 PM
well someone is going to fucking die that is a guarantee, someone will probably serve hard time and one of them will get away scott free . I hope Gardocki either gets the happy ending or kills someone. Vic or Shane die/serve hard time and that little kid kills his mom and ATF Agent Cohn lives on guilt and can't be a cop anymore. And the rapist/pedophile raps that cops kids and he flips out.

eMart
11/18/08, 11:10 PM
Fuck, what a great episode. I see Vic rotting in jail, Shane getting killed, Gardoki hopefully gets away but I doubt it. Dutch is going to get killed saving Lloyds mom. Hopefully Billings gets attacked/killed/raped by the pedo. The hot chick cop getting naked.

Its a goddamned shame more people don't watch this show.

sevinw0rds
11/19/08, 05:34 AM
This shit will not end well for anyone, I think. I'm on board with the belief that there's gonna be multiple deaths, there's way too much mayhem abound in terms of unresolved issues. And if/when Vic finds out what Corrine was up to....Jesus.

TK
11/20/08, 06:35 PM
I heard 4 major characters will die in the Finale.

eMart
11/20/08, 09:43 PM
I'm sure the Ryan and the rest of the writers know who we expect to die so they'll probably throw some curve balls our way. The obvious answers would be Vic, Shane, Gardoki...but I think we might see Dutch, Claudette, Shane's wife, Aceveda dying.

mht
11/20/08, 10:48 PM
I think one of the three between Vic, Shane, Gardoki will live or "get away" in the end.

I've read none of these for a fear of seeing any possible leaked spoilers.

Vic is going to die, I've seen this coming since the beginning of the season.

I think Ronnie is going to kill Shane, but Shane is going to get Vic...or in a more complicated twist, Korinn (spell check) will kill him.

Ronnie will be the only one to make it out alive. I hope he gets away.

I've felt like the show has had its ups and down, but it's definitely going in the right direction for the finale. I'm glad to see this show get a proper ending, unlike some great TV shows (Third Watch)

I thought the "Dutch" spin off came about as a joke. I don't think they'd ruin what they did on the shield with a spin-off that may turn out to be subpar compared to the series. I always thought the print ads for the shield were spectacular and IGN has got a good article on them http://tv.ign.com/articles/933/933411p1.html

Nope, its been in the talks for two years now, but hasn't been a focus because the shield keeps adding seasons. How would it ruin the shield?

After seeing what Karnes did on his own in Sons of Anarchy I think he's more then deserving of his own show, whether or not its Dutch related, I guess doesn't really matter, but he has put alot of energy into developing that character.

mht
11/25/08, 12:25 PM
Yea he killed it as the ATF agent in Sons. Dude was fucking awesome. IMO needed to live longer, would have been fine if they killed him at the season finale or season 2 and not in just fucking episode 6 or whatever it was. Dude was fun to watch. His creepiness kept me on the edge.

I wasn't implying it would suck because Karnes wasn't a good actor or anything, and yeah I agree he got killed off WAY too soon on SoA, I think he's great and would love to see him in other things. I just figured that after seven seasons of the Shield, they're ending it for a reason. I'm guessing the actors, writers, etc. want to move on and pursue other projects so if a spin-off were to come about they might not have the original team working on it. They'd probably have to hire a new writing team and get in new characters which could potentially suck thus kind of tarnishing on the high The Shield's leaving off on.

if they had it where he was like transferred to a new precinct or got a promotion and just carried him along and everyone else was new I'd imagine the character developments would be easier. As you already know/are familiar with his character. All the fans of the Shield would at least give it it a shot. So to keep them, this spin off would have to come out firing. No bullshit.

I had the biggest "FUUUUUUU" moment during the season finale. It hasn't rained where I live pretty much all year and it starts raining today of all days. One hour into The Shield finale it shuts off and goes into an Emergency Warning about flash floods. If that wasn't bad enough, at 11:33 I get ANOTHER one. Holy shit I was about to throw something at my TV.

I just feel stunned. The whole episode seemed anti-climatic to me. Gardocki being arrested and Shane shooting himself was horrible.
I kind of agree, I really wish it were 2 hours long so they could've tied up a few loose ends. It's implied that Lloyd was busted, but I would've liked to seen it, seeing Ron sitting in his cell would've been nice, see what happens to a few of the other characters, etc.
so where was he going with that gun and grimace? This ending left me hanging like how Angel did the exact same way.
It was Sopanos-esque in it was open ended. I guess they wanted to leave it up to the viewers what happens next. According to the creator:

Where was Vic racing off to at the end?
We've always viewed Vic as a shark. He's someone who, in order to survive, has to move forward. Is he going to search for his kids? Is he going to pursue his own sort of police work on his own time? Is he going to do something postal? I don't know. But I do think the shark swims forward. Rest of the interview here. I wish it was more close-ended. They really turn it around and make you dislike Vic in the final episode and I wanted to see him get what was coming to him.

I thought it was going to end, at least for the strike team like a better tomorrow 2 with a big gun battle and the end and no-one getting out of there alive. I thought the way they turned it round on Vic was well done, but I think I'd also have liked a little more definative closure

Ronnie's reaction as he was being hauled away was so well done too. David Rees Snell wasn't given much to do for the first five seasons apart from getting burned in the face and adding some moments of unexpected hilarity (the rug-washing one-liner), but these last two seasons, 7 especially, he really ran with it. He brought the intensity ten-fold and it broke my heart to see it all end for him like that. Like Kavanaugh said when he was grilling him in S5, he played everything smart to assure he would never get caught, and Vic sold him down the river.

Seeing Mackey waddle around in a suit was hilarious as well.

Goodbye amazing show, it was great to watch a TV creation begin and end the way the creators meant for it to go.

This might have been asked before, but will they ever transfer the DVD's over to Blu-ray disc, or is it like The Wire where -- from what I've been told -- they can't because of the cameras the show was shot using?

That is correct about the no blu-ray release for The Shield. I still need to get the series on dvd. It's been too long.

Holy fucking shit. I just watched the pilot. I do not have time to sit around watching seven seasons in the next week, but I'll be damned if that doesn't happen.

Still my favorite tv series of all time. I miss being excited about this show. I haven't found anything that comes close to it. Any recs?

Breaking Bad for that feeling of nail-biting intensity. The Wire if you want to examine the relationships between police, the drug trade, and political institutions.

I'll probably check out The Wire. Heard a lot of praise for it. I grew up in meth country so Breaking Bad is probably background noise to me.

I doubt the show is anything like you are picturing it. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.

Definitely check out the Wire, though. Groundbreaking television.
