View Full Version : Dropping out

Has anybody on here dropped out of college? Did you go back later? How much stigma did you have to put up with? etc. etc.
I'm really hardcore thinking about it. But, it's like failing out in one degree in order to get the other. Complicated, yes. But I think it's the only way I'm going to actually be happy.

happy? I would say 8 out of ten people who do drop
out don't go back. Besides holding a B.A isn't even what it used to be. So many people are moving onto even more schooling.

Not that I would know personally, but from what I've read barely anyone that drops out ends up going back.
It seems like a big risk to me.
I'm dropping out after this semester, so I can work my ass off and then move and go to school somewhere else. I can NOT wait til the end of this semester.

i have never thought of dropping out nor do i plan to. however, the majority of my friends have and they are doing pretty good for now. none of them plan on going back, but that decision my bite them on the ass later.

oh, it will. no doubt about it. Well, no I'm wrong. Maybe they aspire to work at wawa for the rest of their life.

statistics show that people who drop out don't go back. so they're basically failures
You'll just regret it later if you do.

freedom wont be great when you have kids and no job because you felt like being lazy when you were younger.

I dropped for a semester so far. It's too late to register for this upcoming semester now, but I am going to transfer to another school and start going in the fall. At first, it's nice having the freedom, but then you'll realize you aren't saving the money you had hoped to. Besides, you'll probably realize being in school is kind of fun once you aren't going anymore.

anyway, it depends on the reason you're dropping out first of all. I dropped out of college 2 times before i found the right school that i ended up getting my B.A. from. Sometimes you're just not at the right school or you aren't at the right place in your life to want to be there and need some time to figure out what you need to do. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
I worked for a while before realizing that I needed a degree to get a shot at better jobs. Now I'm at the point in my life that I'd like to go back for my MBA or Masters degree. I'm not really a person who does well in typical schools so I understand not wanting to go to class when it's a huge lecture and the teacher doesn't even know/care if you're there. Finding the right school was the biggest hurdle for me to overcome.
Good luck whatever you decide.

I couldn't go to school last semester because of financial problems. I love school so once I came back this semester I realized how much I appreciate it and I'm working ten times harder. I guess it's different if you really love school but I wouldn't drop out...I'm farther behind from getting my BA in Psych just because I missed that one semester.

i did search but apparently not hard enough, my apologies (not sarcasm)
and this truthfully was the type of response i was looking for. when you've been through it and had life take from you what it may and shit happen.... it's time to reassess priorities, even if it is temporarily. i hope i'll go back but i'd rather do it when my head is on straight and i can focus completely, not when i'm scraping by just to pass courses.

my friend had a full ride on a softball scholarship and one day she decided she didn't want to play anymore meaning her scholarship went away. when it got too expense she dropped out. all she does is work now.

OMG. ME TOO!! I can't go to school here anymore. I'm taking the next semester off and working full time and applying to some schools out of state that actually have my major.

that's exactly what I need. right now I find that I just don't care at all.
College is easy and I can't wait till I can make lots of money.
