Electronica + Indie?

Yesterday in school, someone told me that electronica was breaking its way into indie music, citing the band MGMT.
I strongly disagree, but I wanted to know AP.net's opinions.

Copeland isn't the best indie band. Brightest isnt the best song. I didnt tell her. The only reason I referenced that was to show that I'm not ignorant to the style of music and she is the kind of kid thats like "oh look at me, i fit into the 'emo' stereotype, yet I listen to the clash and bright eyes so i know everything about music"

Groups like MGMT and Empire of the Sun are definitely not "indie" influenced, they're just an emerging trend of Electro and House if anything.

Styrofoam on the other hand, is a good example of blending indie and Electronica, he's worked with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service) and Jim Adkins (Jimmy Eat World - even though they're not indie) to name just two...
