What is going on lately all of these radio stations and clubs going down. I thought punk was at an all time high right now. Shows around here(Seattle) seem to be selling pretty well but rock radio does seem to still suffer. Does anyone think a radio that plays the band that we talk about on this site would work? Im not a fan of radio anymore but I think a station our scene music would work. As for CBGB's that really sucks they helped start punk and now they have to close what the hell is going on.

I hope they don't get evicted. CBGB's is a historical landmark. I'd like to be able to say that I've seen a show there at some point in my life.

Rock radio needs another grunge type explosion. Because right now mainstream rock is on the average very boring and generic. But I don't know how well a punk radio would work, even though within the "scene" there is tons of support it's a relatively small audience.

I sent this letter which took me all of 5 minutes to throw together, I recommend you all do the same to save the home of underground music in New York City:

Dear Bowery Resident's Committee,
As the fate of CBGB's, one of the most historical musical venues currently active today, rests in your hands, I wish for you to reconsider your position on their rent. The way the housing and rent market works is that the cost of whatever land is in question raises at a steady rate, occasionally seeing a slight decrease or leveling off. It would be only fair for costs of rent to mirror the trend in the same market which is a part of. Therefore, I ask you to restate your position in the matter of the CBGB venue's rent and do exactly that. This could also benefit you in the long run. Thousands if not millions travel to New York City every year to visit this mecca of underground music. Whatever financial business you wish to obtain from the rent at this address will never be greater than the business CBGB's has brought you. Should you steadily increase rent to match that of the costs of land, you will see the profits you wish to see in due time. This place has been seen as a home to many people over the years and obtains a large historical stats, to merely write it off would not only upset those people, but hurt your committee's image. As a resident's committee, you should not just be concerned with money, but the image of your community. Removed CBGB's over a mere monetary issue which could be resolved to work for both parties is foolish. I hope that you reconsider your stance.

does anyone remeber when Hot Topic started selling CBGB;s shirts. That was weird cus then all the peopel were "omg im so punk cus i have this shirt" if they actually went there they would be like "what the hell its so crappy". CBGB'S is awsome everytime i go to New York i go. It really is a landmark to the "punk socity" if you will.

CBGB is like a museum... it's got to be the most legedary venue I can think of and what a shame it would be to have it closed.

seriously...its got so much history that if it never had shows anymore this would still be a shame...it would be like if the whisky on sunset or the roxy, or the troubador, all those places are legendary and if any of them closed it would be horrible. i really hope they can keep cbgb open.
