This is awesome. My Mom bought me this cookbook for Christmas this year, and I'm sitting here going through it and looking at all the different recipies, and putting post-its on all the ones i think i'd be able to make. It's tight, I have a whole list of stuff I need to go buy (like...specific types of pans, meat thermometer, etc..).
The plan is that I'm going to be able to like...once a week go grocery shopping and just buy my everyday eating stuff (microwave food, sandwich stuff) but then I'll have a list of the ingredients I need for my one fucking AMAZING meal of the week that I'll probably make for my girlfriend and myself.
Then slowly and surely I'll become a masterful fucking chef.
I feel so grown up. lol.
I insist on being the chef in my house every once in a while when I have a family. My wife will cook like...a good deal of the time, but I'll randomly cook on special nights, and it will be 5x better than anything SHE makes.
"I love it when Dad cooks"
Fuck yes. I am Dad. Eat my steak.

hahaha, this part really made me laugh
That's awesome man, and a really good idea. In fact, I might adopt it (starting next year of course).
Thats how my family is. My mom usually cooks but once or twice a week my dad will and its awesome. My mom's cooking is good too but its just like, a treat when dad does it. Good call.
Now I miss home. :(
i love cooking..i cant cook much but i do it whenever im in the mood for it

That's what I want my friends to say. lol. "Tom is such a good cook." I demand to be legend.

Do it. Anything you do that makes your life feel more controlled and responsible will make you have a TON less stress. Sounds lame, but it's the fucking truth.

That's what it was like for me too. I lived with my Mom, and she's an alright cook, but whenever I would go to my Dad's for a night and he'd cook it'd always be totally special and fucking delicious.

I don't think "baking" will ever EVER be something I will be able to do. I'm a big pasta/steak/roast/chicken man. Grilling and broling and making really really good sauces.
It's ALL about fucking sauces. Even if you can't cook at all, and the meat or whatever you make is all janxy and horrible, if you have memorized a good sauce, and just mix it right - it always makes anything good. Because sauce is simple. It just needs to be mixed and heated. Any type of sauces. Pepper sauces, oriental sauces, spicy sauces, whatever. I like garlic.

I expect to be referred to as "Dad" from this point forth.
Can I call you Daddy?

Poppa Tom.... hahaha.
I can cook... when I want to. I made a whole thanksgiving dinner once, including dessert and stuff. I also made thai food one night, it was scary because I put in waaaaay too many chillis. I love baking though, I make a mean cake.

Daddy, Poppa Tom, Big Poppa Sway - any variations of these things are totally allowed.
My roommates all call me Dad anyway, because I drive a Buick, and always have to yell at them when they're being retarted in the back seat.
EDIT***
The list came out as follows:
Roasted Garlic Steak
Sesame-Ginger Barbecued Chicken
Steak with Sweet Pepper Sauce
Greek Sirloin with Cucumber Raita
Chicken and Pasta with Peanut Sauce
Roasted Red pepper Sauce over Tortellini
Chicken Marsala
Chicken Cacciatore
Garlic Chicken Stir Fry
Greek-Style Turkey Burgers
Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast
And then I have my parents recipies for lasagna and different curry dishes.
This rocks.
I am already an amazing chef. My sister even said "wow your a better cook than mom" and then after that all the cooking was relinquished to me.
Tonight, I actually made shrimp marinated in paprika, olive oil, chives and some other spices and then roasted it. Made a big pot of rice and tostones (fried plantains).
