You can read an article here (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/7207628/weezer?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single1) on Weezer (http://www.weezer.com)'s "comeback" and new album, Make Believe, which is due on May 10th. The following line gives me hope:
"But with the guidance of Audioslave producer Rick Rubin, Cuomo started writing tunes he liked -- and many of them recaptured the naked honesty of 1996's Pinkerton and the band's 1994 debut, the Blue Album."

That sounds nice!!! Who's going to see these guys in a little over a month? It looks like this tour the venues are a little smaller than usual. I like that.....

the whole article makes the album sound great. remember though, we did hear a lot of the same stuff before the last two albums....
*to ab punk mods: is there a reason why quick reply is making a quote of the last post appear now?

No we didnt. We heard album 4 demos. I never remember them saying how Green and Maladroit sounded like older stuff.
"We didn't ever set out and say, 'Let's do a mixture of Pinkerton and the Blue Album with some Maladroit guitar solos,' " says guitarist Brian Bell. "But I think it sounds like that, because that's what we are."
Very very nice.

I'm so freaking happy that Weezer is making another album. I love those guys!
I'm looking forward to some new music from them!

I'm sorry but they said the same thing about the Green Album...I am the biggest Weezer fan and even I am skeptical about this album. Beverly Hills is quite possibly the worst Weezer song I have ever heard. I am hoping that the rest of the album doesn't sound like that and if it does this album will surpass Green as the worst Weezer album ever.

I wasn't aware Weezer was doing poorly enough to need a "comeback" I thought they had a pretty solid, and fairly large, fan base. Weird.

They have been gone for 3 years or so (probably closer to 2) so in the public eye that is a comeback.

No, I'm a fan...but hey thanks for your opinion...oh and I was in fifth grade when the blue album dropped which means you were still shitting your pants.

Man, The Blue Album will always be one of my all-time favorites. I got it when it came out and it was the first album I learned all the words to.

Me too, and I learned every guitar part. I went to my guitar teacher and had him show me how to play everything. It was the best time ever.

Because that's totally relevant.
A die-hard fan would realize that Blue and Pinkerton were albums of the past. It's done. Get over it. Weezer (and all bands, for that matter..unless you're Creed) aren't stuck in a perpetual state of making records that sound like the Blue Album, because, if they did, people like you would bitch and moan about how every album sounds the same. You are not a die-hard fan; you are a fan of Blue-era Weezer, which is totally fine, because I'm sure most can agree that Blue is a damned good album.
But get over the fact that this isn't a Buddy Holly or an El Scorcho. This is Beverly Hills; it's incredibly catchy and clever, and oozes with sarcasm. It's great, once you let go of holding onto the old Weezer so dearly.
So have some faith. Jeez. They scrapped an entire album and went on to write Make Believe; don't you find that encouraging enough?

Dude, I like those albums but guess what??? They aren't good Weezer albums. They are not good because 1) Green TRIES to sound like Blue and fails 2) Maladroit is drawn out and forced. Weezer is not a band that should be trying to do this big, anthematic rock sound. Also, I don't know if any of you know the song "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band but the rhythm, the chords and the chorus for the most part were completely stolen.
I want this album to be as good as the next person but lets face it, Beverly Hills is the worst indication of what this album will sound like. I hope to god I eat my own words on this but as of now my opinion remains. I am skeptical.
And Weezer has scrapped an entire album before as well and Green came out of it...so no I don't find taht encouraging at all.

I honestly hope you're disappointed, then. I don't find Green to be as bad as everyone says it is (not that I'm saying it's their best; it's not, but it's a solid rock album), and I really do enjoy Beverly Hills, because it's just a fun song in general.
And, to weezer182, I envy you immensely. I'm only 18, so I can't go to the Vancouver show, even though I live here. I have to make the trek down to Seattle. Oh well, it'll be worth it.

All kidding, aside, this is great news. I'm waiting till I hear more of the album to make a judgement call, but this does raise my spirits about the album.

I... don't understand.
P.S. Green album = Weezer's early Beatles pop album = goooood shit.

Blue album = brilliant
Pinkerton = masterpiece
Green = my favorite good mood cd ever? signs point to yes. it ain't deep but it is indeed some good shit.
Maladroit = hey at least burndt jamb is awesome! the rest is week
Beverly Hills = Sounds a bit like old weezer. Catchy as fuck. Shows signs of experimentation (talkbox solo). Very promising considering that it is a first single.
This album is going to be awesome. A synth driven song!!!! The last time weezer did that (you gave your love to me softly) it was pretty much the best thing ever so that song is going to be pretty sweet.

1) Green TRIES to sound like Blue and failsIf by that you mean "we'll do a similar album cover but besides that we're not going to use acoustic guitars or witty lyrics or musical dynamics or anything that might make someone mistake this album for our 1994 album of the same name, and therefore we pretty much knew that this album would sound nothing like the previous album we put out that's referred to by a color", then yes you are right.

If by that I mean they are trying to write the same 4 chord power pop that did them good on Blue and failing miserably then yes...thats my opinion
does anyone even know whos opening for this upcoming Weezer tour?

If by that I mean they are trying to write the same 4 chord power pop that did them good on Blue and failing miserably then yes...thats my opinionThey said when it was being released that they wanted to write a simplistic pop album where the lyrics were more or less fluff but every hook and melody was killer. Personally, I think there's a ton of complex stuff going on with Blue, what with the harmonies present, song arrangements, chord variations... it's a hell of a lot more than four chord power pop.

weezer have yet to disappoint me. I listened to maladroit just yesterday, and i can honestly say i love that album. it's not as good as blue or pinkerton, but then again, nothing is. green album is also good.
beverly hills is addictive and i have high hopes for this album.
