I hate to sound like an elitist here, but this song is just terrible, and I hate how people are forcing themselves to like it. This song doesn't even work for me as a catchy radio single, the hook just isn't there.

See, that's the thing. Most people that like this song that I've talked to say they like it because it's Weezer, but if it were any other band they wouldn't. I just don't see the logic to, as you said, force yourself to like something just because everything so-and-so makes should be gold. Sometimes a spade's a spade, as the old saying goes, just accept that.
On the other end of the spectrum, for the people that DON'T like this song, don't bash Weezer or this new album without listening to the entire thing. Personally, I think this song is horrible and doesn't belong on radio, TV, etc. but the new album could be great considering this WAS made for these mediums (at least that's what I've been told).

Well, i don't know about anyone else, but I love this song. And if it wasn't Weezer, I would still love this song. End of story.

I think this song is OK, but not good enough for Weezer, i'm sure the album will be awesome though.
Had another band i'd never heard of released this track, i probably wouldn't like it much at all to be honest, and i wouldn't check the band out based on this one song.

They've already said plenty of times that they wrote this specifically for the radio and that it's not necessarily representative of the album as a whole, so everybody needs to CHILLL THE FUUUCCCKKK OOUUUTTTT.
Personally, it doesn't bother me. The music is fun, and lyrically it's a bit of a flashback to the goofiness and self-deprication that was so abundant on Blue and Pinkerton. This album is going to be just fine.

I hate Weezer.
ummm, first off this very well may NOT be the final version of the song. it is certainly not the one sent to radio and most likely a very early mix of the album version (the "gimme gimme's" in this are done by a guy, the guitar tone is completely different, etc...)
the radio version sounds much better... i have no idea why karl posted this unfinished one.
regardless...
in my opinion this is the best weezer single to be released since 'pink triangle.' it's quirky. it's fun. and it sounds like weezer (very much like 'el scorcho' in fact). let's not forget most people hated pinkerton when it came out, i know i was thrown off when i first heard it and was expecting blue album #2.
pay attention to the nuances in the song (i'm not sure if they're all in this stream, and if you're listening to the windows media player one, listen to the real player one it's pratically cd quality). there is falsetto in the background of the first verse. maracas. piano on the bridge. people shouting lines in the background. these are the things that make weezer great and have been lacking on the last two discs.
listen again.
i'm gonna take this down soon but here is the final version of the radio mix @ 320 kbps:

I find a lot of the opposite too. When everyone says this song sucks, people listen to it expecting to hate it. When Maladroit came out and everyone said it was shit when I listened to it I just kind of labeled it as shit because I felt like i was supposed to. Later, listening to it again, I realized it was really good. I would like this song regardless of who was singing it, and when I say I like it because its Weezer, I dont mean I only like it because of the band playing it, it means I like it because of the style and the little things the band does in their songs.

I like this song a lot. This version kind of sucks. I am pretty sure it is the demo, mainly evidenced by the worse mix and the male gimme gimmes. The radio promo version is much better.

I don't get it....I'm not the biggest Weezer fan, I like the popular songs like "Buddy Holly" and "My Name is Jonas", but I still love this song.....someone said it doesn't have a hook....are you kidding? It has multiple hooks. And the little guitar solos with the weird distortion are awesome.

I think that distortion you are speaking on is the Hog effect which artists such as Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Peter Frampton and, who this song sounds like, Steve Miller useed to use. The solo is..well...its a solo...not the best I have heard from Weezer but it does beat just playing the melody as a solo (which is not bad but we know Rivers has rocking abilities).

Haha, I was trying to think of what this song reminds me of, especially the part where he goes a little higher with the vocals and sings, "I wanna live a life like that...", and it's that Steve Miller song that goes "I really love your peaches" or whatever. Sweet Pete eatin' wheat.

*sigh*, poor weezer, the just don't know when to quit. This song is horrendous, i even hesitate to call it a weezer song, it sounds like something as bland and hookless as what some 16 year old kids would record in their basement for shits and giggles. I want to like this song so badly, but ugh, its even worse than the green album and maladroit trash, to be fair though, after hearing 'sugar we're going down' by fall out boy, i dont think much could impress me.

Ok, well the defense people are giving is that this is supposed to be the "radio single". And while I'm not bashing the album, it could be great, this sucks as a radio single even. Even though I didn't really like Green Album or Maladroit I did enjoy the singles and thought they were catchy. This just isn't even catchy to me, I'd have to try real hard to get it stuck in my head. And if saying this brings on negative scene points, then bring it.

This is not right. This song is not good. I hope to god they purposely chose the worst song from the album to put up cause this is trash. Especially for Weezer. They are capable of so much more.

I am gonna stick up for this one too (scene points be damned!). I think it's a song the aim of which is to re-establish themselves (has been another very long gap between albums) as a radio band, and I think it will do an excellent job of that. I would also be willing to bet that its one of the anthems of this early summer, and that most of the people who are on here bitching about it will be singing along at some point! What I have heard of the albums sounds brilliant too, so here's looking forward to that!

2 problems with the song:
1) rivers lyrics....what the fuck??
2)the guitar solo.....big what the fuck!
i'll still probably get the album just because I like weezer...this song will be quite passable though :headshake
