Because the metal thread seemed to disappear, here's new one, and a better one. No bullshit.
Been listening to a lot of Accused lately.
posting this in here also if you some of you don't like hardcore:
Bolt Thrower has released this bit of news regarding their first trip to the USA in 14 years:
"Due to the fact that we are not real festival lovers or great fans of flying, the chances of us ever coming to the States for a one-off show was always very small. But after years of relentless emails from Ryan we've finally given in. It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since we last played in the US, so we are very happy to announce that we are finally coming back. Bolt Thrower will be playing Maryland Deathfest VII, on May 22-24, 2009, at Sonar, Baltimore, MD."

no. you just don't have any clue what you're talking about. it would be like me claiming i like... fuck, it is fucking idiotic that you just write those bands off because they aren't shredding. there's more to music than playing fast, and this is coming from someone who usually thinks any band should be faster.
so you are trying to say the Faceless are more metal and have done more for metal than Cult of Luna or Neurosis?

sure, that's an opinion, but you have to some perspective. to compare their contribution to music to nu-metal is completely ignorant, and if you expect to be taken seriously, then you shouldn't make claims like this.

not really. i just have noticed that the guys i've met in bands like this think they're the best musicians ever.
Cult of Luna and Neurosis may bore you but how many bands can you find that are generic copies of them, because I can find hundreds/thousands of bands that sound just as generic as the Faceless.

Good stuff guys. Going back to the earlier discussion, I have found Cult of Luna and Neurosis a little less accessible than other bands like Isis, Baroness, Opeth, etc...but I have listened to a little of each of them and with time it is definitely something that most metal fans can appreciate. I know some of you guys don't like Opeth, but I think they do a lot of cool things and are as important to this generation of metal as Neurosis and Cult of Luna. I will have to go listen to Neurosis and Cult of Luna a few more times, though.

First of all, to say every album and every song by Between the Buried and Me sounds alike, or that it sounds like anything else on this list, means you haven't listened to them.
I'll give you that there are more pretenders and poor examples of this style of metal than there are good ones, but that's no reason to write it all off - that just indicates laziness, elitism, and general willful ignorance. After all, the fact that there's more bad examples of music than good is true in just about every genre.

First of all, to say every album and every song by Between the Buried and Me sounds alike, or that it sounds like anything else on this list, means you haven't listened to them.
BTBAM does sound like most things on that list, and their new albums are off the same blueprint as Silent Circus, except now the songs run on for 5 more minutes than they should. They have as little of a concept of songwriting as any other band in their genre and use the same techinques.
It is a common opinion on here to think BTBAM is some transcendently good metalcore band, but I'm not even sure where that comes from outside of comparing them to the bottom of the barrel bands or something.
They just can't write songs that will hold your attention for the 10+ minutes they are playing them now. I enjoy the Silent Circus, it's a pretty good metalcore album, but they keep sounding alike even when the lengths of the songs change.
At least I'm glad some users can provide some insight other than "The Faceless and Arsis" are changing metal because they are "techy." To say Neurosis and Cult of Luna is boring, but those two bands who sound exactly the fuck alike in every song are not, is quite the stretch/bold statement if you ask me.

I still think presently Cult of Luna is by far ahead of everyone else in any sort of metal anything category. But Neurosis is all time for me, but in terms of right now, it's hard to say any album topping Eternal Kingdom in the 2007, 2008 or even 2009. Buried Inside I'm sure will give them a run for their money, and I'm sure the Ocean might also.

Neurosis-Times Of Grace (http://www.mediafire.com/?dc9qtyxxdnx)
Tribes Of Neurot-Grace (http://www.mediafire.com/?gwcw5tnwhnw)
It is ideal if you could listen to them playing simultaneously on two different stereos, this way it sort of fills the room you are listening in, however if this isn't possible, I laid the two on top of each other.

Dude, last i checked the faceless and arsis really dont sound all that much alike other than the fact that they both incorporate some technicality. I can't remember the last Arsis song I heard with a breakdown, while the Faceless prolly have one in every song. You've prolly listened to like a few songs from each and then just dismissed them because you hold on to your opinions very highly. Not saying you have to enjoy it, and i'm not saying that either of these bands are monumental for metal, but they both are good for what they are trying to do. And i certainly don't think they are trying to be genre changing bands.
But anyways...my metal list of late includes:
- (Old) In Flames
- Decapitated
- Psycroptic
- Sleep Terror
- Mercury Switch
- The Faceless

White Zombie, Ministry (after Twitch), and Rammstein....although on the less electronic end, Motorhead, Metallica, Pantera....also gotta toss in Cirith Ungol, Sabbath, and Slayer...also Mayhem, for some obligatory black metal, and i'm gonna call Cradle of Filth (say what you will, i like how they sound) and Cattle Decapitation in as well.

Opeth
Between the Buried and Me
Dillinger Escape Plan
Warbringer

Cult of Luna
Neurosis
rosetta
giant/braveyoung
Mastodon
Burst
At the Gates
Faceless
Black Dahlia Murder
old In Flames
Emperor
Protest the Hero (i know i know...guilty pleasure)
old Darkest Hour
and beneath the massacre and the faceless sound exactly the fuck a like. every song, every album and so forth for born of osiris, veil of maya, arsonist get all the girls, despised icon, through the eyes of the dead, elysia, war from a harlots mouth, abigail williams, between the buried and me, into the moat, after the burial, sea of treachery, with dead hands rising, winds of plague, harlots, whitechapel, i could go on and on and on with this nu jack myspacecore crap.
...
LOL. all those bands sound the same. have the same band font. same image. tour together. are doing the same things with their guitar work. tune the same. and all have the same drum beat+fill.
what are you not getting? listen to any of their myspaces and tell me a difference between any of them.
Between the Buried and Me doesnt sound like any of those bands, doesnt have the same font, and certainly not the same image as any of those bands, and Blake is probably a more creative drummer than every other band in that list. besides that I agree with you...and maybe Into the Moat too, they are definitely better than the other bands (thought not awesome, but def above most that list)

^^meh, some people just get super picky about certain types of metal. While I agree that a lot of those bands ARE just rehashing similar sounds (that werent that creative to begin with) without bringing much new to the table, there certainly are "standout" bands that unfortunately get lumped into groups like that.
For example, I for one think BTBAM isnt really that comparable to any of those other bands in the list. For starters, they really don't share that similar of a sound or songwriting approach and their knack for melody is definitely stronger. On top of that, you're comparing a band that has been around for 9 years under the btbam monicker, with 3 of the original members in a band that laid the groundwork for BTBAM, dating back another 4 years to 1996 with the other bands in that list average an inception time of about ~4-5 years ago. So considering myspace was started 6 years ago, i could see the silly/stupid "myspacecore" jab being associated with some of the later bands, but not with a band with half their catalog out before myspace was even created.
I'm sure I'll get flamed by some elitists here too, but I also think the faceless are head and shoulders better songwriters than some of the other bands in that list. Nothing "omg i've never heard anything like this before" and they are certainly not my favorite metal band but its good. Call it myspacecore or whatever you want, but its a very enjoyable modern derivative of technical death metal so I couldn't care less what genre someone thinks it is.

I agree about BTBAM and The Faceless, two of my favorite metal bands!
Really though out of that list I could only say that two or three on there are bands that I couldn't tell apart just by listening.

Any suggestions?

Also fuck yeah Magrudergrind.
Also, lol @ those making BTBAM out to be some sort of geniuses. They're good, yes, particularly Colors, and they're one of the best metalcore bands around (not saying much), but they're praised way too much and it's sickening.

Has anyone here heard of Samothrace?
Really slow, sludge metal with some cool melodies.

Wolves In The Throne Room was a dope show, but they were apparently being huge asses.

In what way? Being all rockstar?
They don't tour that much from what I understand.

Complaining about the venue, and how much they were getting paid.

That's lame. Of course I can understand driving a long way and getting treated like crap. No fun.
