View Full Version : Bands That Have Become Worse...

...After every release or bands that have changed their style SO much, they are not popular anymore.

My vote would go to Fear Before. They started off as a weird mix of post-hardcore and emo-core...then went to straight hardcore....then experimental emo-core....now they are circa survive.

Discuss...

The Always Open Mouth > whatever they did before. can't vouch for how good they are now though. only heard two songs from the new one...one awesome and one not-so awesome

ya i wasnt saying they are "bad", just that their style has changed so much that if you listen to odd how people shake, then listen to the self titled, you would not know they are the same band.

Also, Radiohead's style has changed dramatically. If you listened to Pablo Honey and then listened to Amnesiac, you wouldn't know it was the same band. Well, you might be able to. Thom has a relatively distinctive sounding voice.

The correct answer is Weezer.

really? I mean yeah the first two they'll never reach, but in terms of post-Pinkerton, Red sure as hell beats the crap out of Green aside from maybe "Island In the Sun"

thats not fair, thats like saying rap > hip hop. similar but distinctively different. if you were to throw out some band names then you can use better than or worse than.

I'd say Pinkerton > Blue > Maladriot > Green > Red > Make Believe.

Whether or not Red is slightly better than Green or Maladroit is pretty meaningless because it is all so much worse than the first two albums.

Blue > Pinkerton >>>> Red > Make Believe = Maladroit > Green for me. had they not gone on a 5-year hiatus or whatnot I'd say people wouldn't be as disappointed with their later work

that is not true, rap is to hip hop as rock is to alternative.

Obviously from a vocal aspect, but from the music side they kept a lot of the same elements and just presented them in a different manor. But yes, it was a change.

Pretty much 99% of the bands I can think of changed over the years.

Thrice got better, then got worse, then got better, then got worse (maybe they'll get better again?)
Thursday got better then got worse after Full Collapse
The Beatles got better

..,yea, like every band ever changes

ones that got worse?

Thrice
The Octopus Project
He Is Legend
Secondsmile
Coldplay
As Cities burn
Saosin
TREOS
Circa Survive
The Bled
Alexisonfire

The Fall of Troy

I agree, Viva la Vida is the only Coldplay I can bear to listen to. I still don't think they are nearly as good as people make them out to be, but at least I don't want to go deaf everytime I hear their music.

As for my choice of bands that have gotten worse, Green Day started to go downhill after Insomniac was released. They still are good, but AI, and Warning weren't nearly as good as their older stuff.

And I guess I should give a shout to Linkin Park. What the hell were they thinking with Minutes to Midnight?

I DO agree with Funeral For A Friend.

Cookie Mountain vs. Dear Science, the contrast is blatantly apparent, and their newer stuff sounds like prepackaged generic dance-pop.. Which brought them mainstream! They changed a great sound in my opinion, and that makes me sad..

What the FUCK was up with that cd! It's like the definition of mediocre bullshit. Like they go to a major label, and totally change their sound completely. I hate the word, but sellout? If this term applies to anybody, it's these guys.

Damn, you beat me.

I searched this whole thing and got excited no one said Saves the Day.

They did a good job at changin their sound, I think it worked for them. Personally, I like their older stuff.

Music is nearly 100% nostalgia. Like someone said "If Linkin Park's old stuff came out today, I wouldnt like it"

Reminds me of TBS fans, They progressively seem to dislike each album that comes out after their first. To me, I didnt get into them until WYWTB, and that's the album I like the most - and to me, thats their best...

saves the day was awesome, especially when Chris would dance around and not be on guitar. i totally agree with you about the nostalgia aspect cuz everytime i listen to Stay What You Are, or Through Being Cool, i get this midwestern vibe for some reason haha even tho they are from the east cost.

I guess we could say The Spill Canvas...at first they followed the same formula as Dashboard...acoustic first cd, next cd add a band (for every song), then the next cd try to make mainstream but fade out instead.
