Addison - Addison EP
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: June 14, 2008

In the chess game of modern melodic rock figures, Addison is the rook, emblematic of the chariot or castle piece, defending the ranks of ambient rock and keeping its buttery textures fortified. The trio’s self-titled 5-track disc has beautifully sonic strobes reminiscent of Augustana and a dulcet fluidity of light ruffles reflective of Copeland. Sometimes the songs ring out with anthem-enriched thematics like “Join In The Chorus” as lead singer/guitarist Michael Lindsay sings, “Lift up your voices and join in the chorus … Cry out, this one’s for you.” Other songs show the band’s introspective side like “Blink in an Eye” as Lindsay reflects, “In a blink of an eye, you were gone.” The smooth rock textures of guitarist Chris Sipe and keyboardist Cody Carpenter are soothing while guest singer Kari Klingsporn complements Lindsay’s vocals with creamy-soft vocal harmonies on the track.

Klingsporn returns to sing lead vocals on the acoustic-rock tune “Hold On,” and then again to sing harmony vocals on “Holding Your Hand” which is dressed in flowy acoustic guitar strums that spurt into flowering chorus sections. The lyrics in “Holding your Hand” describe, “The story of your life is yet to unfold / The ending is up to you / With just two words you can change destiny / All you gotta say is ‘I do’.“ The union of male and female vocals from Lindsay and Klingsporn are beautifully threaded, and give “Blink in an Eye” and “Holding Your Hand” a high rate of melodic esthetics. The song “We See” and slices of “Blink of an Eye” house stirring motifs that intensify the guitar grips and heighten the mood. The lava streams of echoing distortions along “We See” produce heated flourishes in the center which wane down in the exit. The track displays Addison’s most hard rock tunage and the band’s ability to convert distorted chords into melodic smoothness.

Addison’s self-titled EP is a selection of vignettes that show the band’s ability to work within modern melodic rock formats, stretching into acoustic rock molds and hard rock flusters. The album is filled with pleasing melodic forms and words that deliver a universal meaning to treasure the ones you love and to stand up for what‘s in your heart. The album might be short but it is still hearty.

Hey, Mike Lindsay, he was my roommate for two years, haha.

If only I could tell you how devoted he was to getting to this point in his life. Truly, there were many late nights I heard guitar in the other room... He was most definitely determined to do this.

Don't make the same mistake I did and confuse this Addison with the other Addison who are incapable of singing on key.

This Addison, however, sing beautifully.
