How to tell my parents

Ok, im in hightschool and i cut [or self mutilate as some people call it] and i have been doing it since around the age of 12-13. I really want to tell my parents, but i'm not sure how to do it. Should i just keep it to myself? I'm so confused

It's very good that you want to tell your parents, I would've never been able to tell my parents. If you are considering telling your parents it is showing that you believe in yourself and that you recognize the problem.
You should definitely tell your parents!! If they are loving and caring as most parents are, they will find you help. Cutting usually goes along with depression and I'm just making the assumption that you are also depressed since you've been cutting for that long. It would be best to treat your depression/cutting addiction now before it gets any worse.
You should tell them when everyone is calm and there is the time. I hope this helps.

Yeah a lot of people automatically assume that people cut for attention, but most of the time that is not true. People who go around and show people their wrists and are like "i'm so depressed, i cut myself, i hate my life" are just doing it for attention. Make sure you make it clear to your parents that you are not doing this in an attempt to kill yourself. A lot people who cut are not suicidal, just depressed. But the longer you continue cutting and avoiding help, the more likely you are to become suicidal.

my parents ended up knowing when i talked at a suicide prevention program
it was great therapy

so i know that dosent help

just sit them down and talk to them and if you want to see a doctor then ask but if not you can try quitting on you own

Oh I can understand. One of the worst things I had to experience was calling my mom from the police station after being caught shoplifting. I had to though. I was forced. It helps and they may be pissed at first but I am sure they will come around and help you out. This is something you need help with and you need the love of you parents to work through it.
