I think that bands should start including more content in with their CD's. I hate seeing re-issues come with DVD's and b-sides. All of that stuff should come packed on a 2nd disc with every CD (my opinion). There is nothing wrong with a band recording interviews, or clips from live shows to including it with CD's. I truly think that Bayside would of doubled the sales of shudder if a live DVD came with it. Am I crazy? I don't think it would cost too much more? Do bands need to include more content with their CDs? if so what should it be?

i love those added extras, but i don't know about releasing those extras with every new album. if a band plans to release a live performance &/or interview dvd as a bonus reissues in the future, they should cut the crap & release it all with the initial release of the album, or save it up & release a stand alone dvd sometime in the future

yeah, im kinda sick of having to buy the album again with a few acoustic tracks tacked onto it just because I want the dvd.

I'd like cd booklets to have more in them of interest than just the lyrics. Couldn't care less about extra cd's. Oh and more attention paid to packaging/artwork would be cool too but none of it is necessary.

If it's a live cd/dvd, include extra features on the dvd, and make the cd the same songs that are on the dvd.

If it's a regular album, include the b-sides. Don't pull a jackassy move and make us buy the enhanced cd with 8 new songs when we already had the cd. Also, make buying the album more appealing to us. Have cool packaging. Include where you got your inspiration. Things like that.

I want bands to know they should start to include more content to sway their non-hardcore fans by having a bunch of extras will keep those on the fence people from downloading

i think CDs should come with those little plastic toys like what you get in cereal boxes.

i also think that if you dont put the lyrics in the cd booklet but you tell people to send a dollar to you and you'll send them a copy, you should do it.

B-sides and demos. Some stickers would be great, too.
And all the 'cases' should be made out of paper. It looks much better.
All the CDs should look like this:

I just need artwork, lyrics and the record.

If record companies were smart they wouldn't sell CD's in small packages but rather big vinyl-esque cases. It would persaude people to start collecting nice cardboard cases for a CD collection instead of the mess of melted and broken plastic we all have lying around our rooms.

Agreed. Would look better on walls as well.

I'm a huge fan of the picture books that a lot of live disks have. B-sides, demos, etc are also nice.

And free concert tickets :-)

Actually, it would be pretty cool if they put CDs in vinyl cases, except for the fact that it would end up costing more than the jewel cases simply because they would have to have a way to keep the CD from moving around and getting scratched.

Better packaging would help I'm sure. There needs to be a reason you want the physical copy rather than some online way of getting the music. If the packaging was more interesting and somewhat of a "collectors" kind of thing then I think people would buy more.
