So tomorrow most of us will vote, a lot of us have voted already. I have tried two times to vote. The first time I could not find my early polling place, I drove around for an hour looking for it. The second time, I tried to apply for an absentee, or vote by mail ballot, and I never received my ballot. So tomorrow I have to take time off to brave the lines to cast my vote.
Election Day is weird, it really should be a national holiday where most businesses are closed, like Christmas or Thanksgiving. It is going to be really hard for me to vote tomorrow, I have to wake up at 7 and go to my polling place, which is still by my parent's house which is 45 minutes away from me, and over an hour away from work. I will most likely be at least 3 hours late to work and will have to stay 3 hours late to catch up on work. All the while I have this lingering feeling that my vote really doesn't count, because I live in Georgia, which will certainly go McCain.
This is the third presidential election I have voted in and it is the first time it has been more of a pain in the ass than anything else. So I hope that when Obama wins, he will push for Election Day to be a national holiday. That way people who have demanding jobs, like myself, won't have to jump through hoops just to cast a vote, it should be easier than this.
Voting should be a pleasure, not a chore.
