For those of you having trouble finding the link to the new song by The Aquabats (http://www.theaquabats.com) on their website, you can download it by clicking here (http://www.theaquabats.com/mp3/fashionzombies.mp3). In case you're blind and you missed Chris's earlier post, it's from their new album "Charge!!" that drops on June 14th.

The Aquabats go synth!?!?!

...looks like we're gonna see "The Aquabats And The Full Effect", or "Motion City Aquabats" on this album.

Hey, remember when The Aquabats had a horns section and were AWESOME? Yeah, that was a long time ago.

Yeah, no more horn section. I just can't get into the new stuff as much. I mean, it's good. But their horns were just too stellar to forget that easily. It's like the Aquabats minus the horns now. They've had the keyboardist for a while.

I have nothing but love for the aquabats being that they popped my concert cherry. But After "The Fury" I've only liked a handfull of songs. I would love for them to do a heavier song.

it still sounds ska-ish to me, no aquabats though

Ska is basically defined these days as either upstrokes on the guitar or horns in the band, and it doesn't appear to have either of those.

have any of you kids ever listened to 'the aquabats vs the floating eye of death' or their recent ep 'yo , check this ride'. most of you idiots seem to forget that dropped the whole ska part of their music over 6 years ago. anyone still bitching and saying 'awww they dont play ska anymore' are really making an ass out of themseleves. they still have horns in their band. they still use them to. who cares if it isnt "ska". its still the aquabats making sweet ass music and its still the same aquabats who have one of the best, if not the best live show ever. theyve also had synths and keyboards in the band since the beginning. so the moron who is referring to them as motion city aquabats and the aquabats and the full effect needs to be shoot in the foot and or arm.

i understand what youre saying kid. but horns in a band do not automatically mean the band is ska. i really really hate that more than anything. ive heard some new songs live and they use a sax. it doenst mean its ska though. listen to oingo boingo, a band that heavily influenced the aquabats they have horns but dont play an ounce of ska.

The Aquabats have never been ska since they released "The return of the Auqabts" They've always been synth ever since "vs. the folating eye of death," so this is nothing new. I prefer this sound instead of their ska sound, its just a bit faster, has more of a punk vibe to it, and in my opinion, a heck of a lot more fun (Mr. Bonkers or Pizza Day come to mind especially.) I like "Check Out My Ride" more, but this only delves deeper into what they've been doing for years. Plus, they're going on tour with the PHENOMENUATS (a band everyone should know about) and the Epoxies. That right there is the best tour all year. I just hope it includes a Seattle date.

gah, I was typing my previous post when that went up and I didn't know. Oh well. losingstreakca, I'd give you scene points if I could.

When did I say the Aquabats were a ska band ? You read my post wrong. I said ska is defined "these days" (in terms of how the general public would describe it) as either including horns in the lineup or using upstrokes. I know perfectly well that horns do not make you a ska band, and i'm well aware of what's ska and what's not. However, one more thing, I do not care about what's ska and what's not. People are so caught up in being elite and properly labelling bands as what they truly are nowadays, when really they're just wasting their time. You don't need to give me lessons, so no offense intended, but save your breath. Lastly, who's bitching ? Nobody here actually bitched. That one guy made a joke out of nothing but good fun by the looks of it, and I don't see any reason for you to get so worked up. Take it easy there, pal.

The Fury of the Aquabats included ska songs as well. They hadn't completely abandoned it at the time that album was released. I'm talking about tracks like Magic Chicken, Super Rad, and Martian Girl.

Try to understand where im coming from. I come here and see replies from kids complaining about the aquabats using synths and not having horns anymore. I just find it incredibly stupid for people to be complaining about that. Like I said theyve been using more synths and less horns for the past 6 years. It just drives me nuts. Plus you said that the aquabats dont have a horn section anymore, which is a lie, because they still do. It just not a big part of their band as it once way. Also, I automatically assumed that most people think that horns=ska, like you said, because its true. This is where I got the idea that you thought they were a ska band. There is no way I am trying to be elite. I could really care less. Im just another loser wasting time on a friday night venting my frustration on the internet.

They actually do still have a horn section ? Weird. That's news to me. There's only 6 members in the band now, and guitarist, bassist, drummer, vocals, keyboardist is 5 right there. So the horn section can't be very large if it does still exist. And if it is around, how come it's not anywhere on their most recent EP or on this new track ?

when was the last time you saw them live? i saw them back in december. yea they had 6 members. 2 guitarist, 1 mc, 1 drummer, 1 bass player, 1 keyboard player. So thats 6. No correct me if I'm wrong, but is it possibly for people to be able to play more than one instrument. oh no, how silly of me, people cant possibly play more than one instrument that is just INSANE. one guitarist played the trumpet while the keyboard player played the sax. 2 or more horns makes it a horn section. just because they dont appear on the new album doesnt mean they dont have a horn section still.

Okay, excuse me. They have a horn section, but a horn section that isn't active in their new music. That hardly counts as a horn section if they don't play anything on any new songs at all. They're just there to play on the older tracks. Therefore, they no longer have a horn section, or at least not one that is involved in any new music from them.

I remember one new song that had both the horns on it. Now unless that track got cut from the album Im still gonna say they have a horn section. If they still use the horn section at live shows, well then I still say they have a horn section. Also they use the horn sections during their fights that go on during the show.

Fair enough. I don't even understand why we're arguing about this. It's simply a clash of opinions. Ridiculous, to say the least.

Im really digging this song. Not bad at all. And really there isn't any need to argue, just because this one song doesn't have any horns doesn't mean the album has none at all. And if you want my personal opinion I really think the Floating Eye is where they really captured a unique sound for themselves. Don't get me wrong I love their old stuff too but I think they way they are sounding now is the best they have ever sounded period.
