I'd MAYBE get that, but most of the other selections are atrocious.

I'll admit that Vinyl sounds nice, and they are cool as collectables, but they take too much work to maintain, and you need to spend thousands of dollars to get a good turn table. I'll stick to my CDs and ALACs.

Who in god's name spends thousands of dollars for a good turntable? Are you serious?

I would never spend a thousand dollars on a turntable.

To get any kind of GOOD sound system you need thousands. To play CD's even. However, it's very easy to settle with cheaper alternatives (as you most likely do).

oh sick! I was looking for some Stupid vinyl. That genre is pretty underrepresented in my collection... however, this looks more like stupid-core and pop-stupid... does anyone know where I can get some straight up stupid records?!?!?

I inherited my parents' old turntable from before I was born. It's a Sony, it was their top of line model in the mid 70's. My dad is real anal about his stuff, so it's still in great condition and it sounds wonderful. Didn't cost me a thing.

But yeah... I'm kinda tired of the "you have to spend $$$$$" argument. Sure, it might sound better, but do you honestly notice the difference? I'm not talking about a cheapo piece of shit Big Lots system that's falling apart here... but do you honestly notice any difference between a top of line $5000 system and a fairly decent quality component system? I don't, and my system (not counting the turntable) cost around $500. It sounds good to these ears. Are you people who argue in favor of top of the line stuff the same people trying to tell me that 356kbps mp3's sound like shit and I need to download the FLAC's of everything? Maybe my ears just aren't as good as everyone else's, but I think you're all full of shit lol

have you ever actually listened to the difference between a 75 dollar record player/cd player from shopko and a top of the line 5 thousand dollar turntable, with high dollar components, and speakers? if you have you would notice a difference. just like im sure you could tell some difference at least between listening to a cheap plastic handheld radio from the 70s or 80s, and a full surround sound bose speaker system.
the problem is most vinyl nowadays is not mastered for audiophiles. most labels take the same mix that they pressed the CDs with, and dont bother to get it mixed/mastered specifically for vinyl. which means there really isnt gonna be that much of a difference, no matter how good the system you play it is. and since a lot of hardcore/punk stuff isnt recorded and mixed high quality to begin with, it really doesnt matter once again.

you certainly dont have to spend a lot to get into vinyl though. especially over the long run, since its much cheaper to get a new needle, or belt for your record player, than to get a entire new stereo system everytime your cd drive stops spinning, or the laser stops reading cds, etc. if you get a decent turntable, you shouldnt ever have to replace the entire thing. more than likely though you will change your stereo system within 5-10 years, whether its just an upgrade or because something breaks.

buying vinyl itself doesnt have to be more expensive. as long as you stay away from hyped splatter vinyl adn ebay. most 7"s cost around 4 bucks, and LPs 10-15. which is cheaper than a lot of new CDs. most record stores have used vinyl for 2-5 bucks. whereas used cd stores are usually 4-8 bucks.

and i dont understand how vinyl takes more to maintain. you put them on the shelp just like CDs. you gotta put CDs back in the case so they dont get scratched, and you dont leave cds laying around the floor everywhere. there is really nothing more you need to do for vinyl.
