View Full Version : Okay, this is ridiculous. Everyone on this board should have Source Tags & Codes.
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is a criminally underrated band. Source Tags & Codes is one of the best albums of the past decade and this band should be huge for it. Especially in this scene. Everyone obtain it immediately.

Not so sure about best of the decade but certainly a good album. When a band gets a 10 in pitchfork I have a hard time saying they're underrated.. maybe overlooked but not underrated..

This has always been the reason why they get overlooked, they can't seem to find a fanbase anywhere. I guess I would go with At the Drive In, Minus the Bear, Modest Mouse, Cursive.

will you smile for me again? is one of my favorite opening songs on any cd ever.
it's from world's apart, not source tags, but it is easily in my top 5 in terms of intro songs on cds. if you haven't heard it you need to check it out.
Oh i have and enjoy the rest of their material but Source Tags as a whole totally owns their other albums.

There's a difference between stating a band sounds like some one and responding to a "reccomended if you like:" Most people who enjoy those few bands tend to enjoy trail of dead.

I dare you to download the album and actually listen to it and tell me that it isn't great. I mean, look it up, all signs point towards you actually enjoying it.
EDIT: And I will say that yes, their later stuff really pales in comparison to this particular album and they played a lot of that during the Blood Bros tour.

Look, I don't know where you're getting your information from, but Trail of Dead was a post hardcore band from the same Texas scene as ATDI and over the years happened to go for more of a mellowed out indie rock sound. A lot of their material is easily comparable to ATDI's and you would probably actually enjoy quite a bit. I don't think you realize what a big deal they are. It's like making fun of ATDI and calling them a space pop band without knowing anything about them. Regardless, you should really look into their albums Madonna and Source Tags & Codes, you would probably like them a lot.

If you want any saving grace of an album that sounds like ATDI, it could be somewhat argued that their self-titled from 1998 has some similar characteristics. The vocals of Trail of Dead at this time on a few tracks sound similar to Jim Ward and the music is more frantic. But that is still somewhat of a stretch

Well I figured since you obviously know so much more about them than me I should check them out. After all, they've only been one of my favorite bands for 6 years. Just go back and listen to Thursday and the Blood Brothers, they're a little bit more on your level of thinking.

This band sucks.
I don't understand how someone could listen to Madonna by them and not see why someone would draw any comparisons to ATDI. It's not like a incredibly similar sound like Bear Vs Shark vs ATDI, but it wouldn't be nonsensical to say that ATDI could have written some of those songs.

As a side note, if you look at the "top 10 bands/albums" threads, you will realize that the Beatles are the most name dropped band on this site.

How Near, How Far is another great track.
That whole album is a great track. I enjoyed Worlds Apart and So Divided, but I really think that Elena's Tomb EP and the new EP are better than those albums.
