All my bass and guitar is in my right headphone/speaker... It's ruining my mix, my adapter is stereo how do I get it to record not mono?

Actually, you want it to record in mono.

If it's in mono, one channel can't be louder than the other.

Well I don't know how to switch the from left --> right speaker and need to pan out my bass/guitar? It keeps recording on the right only and my bass and guitar signal is not going so good together so close...

What program are you using again?

Garageband.

Ah, shit. I really need a Mac or something so I can learn how that program works.

Try messing with input settings and making sure the input and track type are set to mono. I'm not really sure what else to look at.

Someone told me that guitar cables are only mono is this true? If so when you record using an interface would that mean you would get the same problem as me?

Yeah, they're mono, which means they only deliver one channel of audio. So if you put in into a mono input, you're golden. If you put it into a stereo input, you get what you're getting. But the good news is that a stereo input can work as a mono input if you set it to. Which is why I think you need to fix some setting somewhere.

Hmmm, any idea where this magical setting might be?

Not in Garageband, no.

In Audacity there's a setting at the top, in Cubase you can set each track when you create it to be stereo or mono.

On the righthand side, make sure your track info is showing. There's an option there for what inputs you're using. Select any of the "mono" inputs. The end!

Really? I was on stereo! So I need to use the Mono ones to get L/R?

You need to use the mono to get mono. If you want stereo you use the stereo, but since you're not putting in a stereo signal, you wouldn't get a stereo sound.

So just use the mono, and it will sound centred, or even in the left and right ears.
