lauren<3s music

I know a bunch of people last night were talking about coming to DC for inauguration. I thought it would be nice if we could all share information in one place.

We have only 76 days to go people!

More details!

"The tickets are distributed through the Senate offices and the House offices" and through the Presidential Inaugural Committee, set up by the winning candidate, he said. "Constituents around the country are urged to contact their House or Senate members. . . . Usually they all have a systematic way of distributing those tickets."
The free, color-coded tickets are not made available until the last minute, to try to keep them from being sold, he said. Most people won't be able to get their tickets until the week before the inauguration, when "each (legislator's) office will have to come to us, to a secure location, to pick up the tickets that have been provided for that office," he said.
The color codes will direct ticket-holders to the various seating areas.
It is not yet known how many tickets each member of Congress will get -- usually it's several hundred -- but people assigned tickets will have to go to their legislator's office on Capitol Hill (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Capitol+Hill?tid=informline) to pick them up.
The viewing area extends from the Capitol along the Mall (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/National+Mall?tid=informline). There will be non-ticketed viewing, Gantman said, but it probably will be far back on the Mall. He said talks are ongoing with the National Park Service (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/National+Park+Service?tid=informlin e) regarding how much of the Mall might be needed and if things like JumboTrons might be used.

For the most part yes. They died doing their job, which I will not discredit them for. We god Sadam and got rid of him. What other benefit has come from us staying in that country for so long? None. It's an endless war.

We got Sadam and gave them democracy and now it's their time to use their surplus and put themselves on their own two feet. We should not have been there in the first place. We should be in Afganistan.

The soldiers are brave for going over there and doing a job that not a lot of people would want to or be willing to do, but yes, I believe they died for a pointless cause.

They died in support of their country, but the leaders of their country lied and were wrong. Why can we not admit that? Because we'd be hurting someone's feelings?

I refuse to live in a country where I'm not allowed to question why my country goes to war and be critical of the reasons. The war was a mistake. That takes nothing away from the sacrifice that those who fought have made other than they shouldn't have been there in the first place. I will always support our troops but will never blindly follow those in charge.

No one is denouncing the soldiers that fight in that war. It is their job and their duty to do so and somebody has to do it. They are brave men and women for doing that for this country. However, the President's decision to go over in the first place was the wrong one, plan and simple. No one is discrediting the soldiers for their patriotism and brave nature, so it's stupid when questions get thrown out there like that.

It's impossible to prove that Obama was born outside the US because he was born inside the US and no real evidence exists or ever can exist to contrary. Your arguments aren't so much baseless as they are conjured fantasies.
So our soldiers (who are people, believe it or not) died for nothing?
So, wait, because people died, we should stay there? That doesn't answer the question of can we win the war (answer: no), regardless. Just because people died doesn't mean we should just prolong the cycle....allowing more people to die. Bush made a huge mistake and to remedy it, we must leave. There is no arguing this.

First of all, dickface, we won the war. There is no war. We're rebuilding Iraq. It took the United States ten years to rebuild Japan after World War II. That's how long it takes to install a new, stable government into a country. If we leave, and make the Iraqis rebuild, we're stuck with a post WWI Germany situation. If you were able to pass your 6th grade history class, you would know that the Iraqis are going to be pissed that we went in there and fucked around with their government. If we don't stay there and patch up the remnants of war, they're not going to be our allies.

Considering how poor Germany was after WWI, I would rate this statement as: INCREDIBLY OFF BASE.

If you were able to pass your 6th grade history class, you would know that the Iraqis are going to be pissed that we went in there and fucked around with their government. If we don't stay there and patch up the remnants of war, they're not going to be our allies.

I apologize to you for having to read the dickface part. But the dude has been a dickface the past few days. A troop surge does not mean we're in a war. We're not fighting the Iraqi government are we? We might have a few skirmishes here and there with some of the crazy locals, but it is by no means a full scale war.

As for your argument of Germany being poor, an opposing nation does not have to be impoverished to hate our guts.

As for your argument of Germany being poor, an opposing nation does not have to be impoverished to hate our guts.

True, but you can't say pulling out of Iraq would be a WWI Germany scenario, the two are so far apart it's ridiculous. I also believe there will be a harboring resentment within the Iraqi people, but the Iraqi government right now is basically our puppet. They will be our allies.

benn10

I see where you're coming from.

How I see it is that if we leave early they'll be even more resentful that we came in, destroyed their country, and left half of what we destroyed unfixed. Now if we rebuilt the nation I think that they won't be so angry and will remain an ally. I guess it's all an opportunity cost situation. Is it worth the extra money to continue rebuilding Iraq? I think so.

I think so.

I agree, but not on a monetary standpoint. I think on a social/humanatarian standpoint we should stay, financially I don't think it can work.

We are past the point of no return on the idea of staying there, it really is a complete lost cause. While I don't believe we went over there for the right reasons at all, the reality is that we are there, and the right thing to do under new leadership would be to stay there and do the job right. I think it would go a long way to repairing U.S./Mid-east relations.

We are spending 10 billion dollars a month in Iraq. Iraq has a surplus. While it's not exactly the best case scenario to go in there, fuck it all up and then leave, we cannot afford to stay in that country continuing to fight and endless war when we have such a major economic crisis going on at home.

From a financial standpoint we should have never gone to war in the first place because we did not, as a nation, have the financial means to do so.

I already looked into hotels and everything available fucking sucks. If I go I'll have to find somebody on here who lets me sleep on their floor.

The hotels have been booked for upwards of a year already.
you can have a corner on my floor if you dont mind cuddling with other people

I might be (actually, there's a pretty decent chance) volunteering at the Inauguration. In 2000, my friend helped seat the Saudi royal family and stood maybe 20 feet from Bush. I'm hoping I get to do this.

On the other hand, another one of my friends had to help contain protesters, which pretty much sucks. But it's still getting to go to the inauguration and standing up close.

I really wanna go up there w/ my gf and roomie but between the plane tickets, hotel tickets and then ceremony tickets I'm gonna be a poor white kid when this is all over with...

i know for the seated area you need to get the tickets from your members of congress but they are free. i'm not sure how they're going to handle the rest of the mall area (if we can just stand there or due to extra security concerns they'll block it off). i'm trying to figure that out still. if you want recs on cheaper places to stay out of the city let me know

i'll definitely take any ideas at this point (feel free to email me). I priced it out on travellocity and found plane tickets (to baltimore) and a hotel for like 3 days/2 nites for 280 a person. That's not bad at all... baltimore's what...an hour away?

And I wrote my district rep last night and inquired about the tickets. Soooooo if I hear anything back I'll make sure to update ya'll.

Dang! $230 bucks from LA to DC. I would totally do it, but there's no way I can afford that + a hotel. Though, it would be epic to see this shit.

bwi works though its a bit far. you'd have to take the marc train to the metro (or rent a car and drive) down to the city. i'm not sure what times/if/when the train will run that day, so you might want to factor that into cost. if you stay in VA there are a lot of hotels that are metro accessible near national. in addition, if you fly into dulles, i'm pretty sure theres a shuttle that can drop you off at the orange line, but again i'm not sure what time(s) they will be running that day

Ticket update

Ticketing Information for the 56th Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) has issued the following information regarding the availability of tickets for the 56th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony on January 20, 2009:

Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Members of the 111th Congress. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies does not provide tickets to the public. Members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress (http://senate.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f0b6ad14c382525e4730c4d0f&id=15ab27934b&e=f2fbf4d640) or U.S. Senators (http://senate.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f0b6ad14c382525e4730c4d0f&id=9c6b0b1edd&e=f2fbf4d640) to request tickets.

The public should also be aware that no website or other ticket outlet actually has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, regardless of what they may claim. Tickets will not be distributed to Congressional offices until the week before the inauguration and will require in-person pick-up.

“Any website or ticket broker claiming that they have inaugural tickets is simply not telling the truth,” said Howard Gantman, Staff Director for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. “Tickets for the swearing-in of President-elect are all provided through members of Congress, and the President-elect and Vice President-elect through the Presidential Inaugural Committee. We urge the public to view any offers of tickets for sale with great skepticism.”

In-person pick-up? Does that mean that we have to go to the office of the representative we contact an pick it up a week before? If it does, darn it. I guess I could get my uncle to request for them through his representative, but they are probably already flooded with requests.
Hmm... maybe I could get my dad to pick them up in FL and send them up to us when we're in MD.
