You should see the amount of "rebel pride" here in south-east Kansas. Seriously, when there's a confederate flag in the back window of every truck in the parking lot, you know your school needs help....Oh yeah, nice article, I learned a couple of new words...

Southern Pride? What pride is there in refusing to be the last part of the country to give up the slavery of a an entire race? Hardly anyone who is alive today was even around then. So what is there to be proud of? The fact that your grand-daddy was too lazy to do the work himelf, so instead he needed a slave to do it?
Anyone who flies the confederate flag is a racist in my book.

I'm not for or against. I see it from both sides. It's just fun discussing it with people. I like seeing peoples reactions to certain things.
i resorted to music to escape all this stupid shit. Its like a debate over if there is a god or not. There is no end, no conclusion. Who cares if its racist? A blog on a punk website isnt going to make all the good ol boys trade in their fords and rebel flags for toyotas and some magnetic yellow ribbons. No offense over the politicians here, Iam sure a few kids might appreciate it, but Iam sure there is a few hundred kids that dont.

He didn't say it wasn't about slavery at all. As far as I can read, he said it wasn't all about slavery.
Which is very true. It was a very economic war, as well.

I think it has become synonymous with a racist culture, so it now represents that faction of racist Americans. The Swastika was co-opted by the Nazis, though it pre-dates the Nazi party by many many years. Even though it didn't start out as a Nazistic symbol, that's what history knows it as. And I think the Confed flag will be viewed much the same way. When I see it, yes, it strikes an uneasy chord with me. I think of the movie "Deliverance."
