That's because there's nothing to do in Butler. I used to live there, went to McQuistion Elementary, and lived in Pittsburgh until recently. I don't see you being different from a lot of kids by what you've described. I'm surprised your mentor didn't just give you a really general suggestion for you to fill the graduation requirement. However, things in high school always work themselves out, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.

yea thanks thats what i keep telling myself that things will work out. but yea my high school is full of a bunch of redneck kids so im sure i cant do much worse than them. so what did you do for yours?
and butler seriously does suck real bad. i usually just hang at the mall since theres like nothing else to do here. so what made you decide to move to south carolina? jw

I graduated from Pine-Richland, and our graduation requirement was a research project we did in 10th grade since our high school was grades 9-12. Unfortunately, I can't be of much help with personal experience. From what I know, most people some kind of substantial research project on something that interests them, or something easy. If you truly have no idea, tell your mentor that you have truly no idea what to do and just to throw out some ideas that people have done before. Keep asking questions until you get a good answer from her, it doesn't matter what she thinks, just that you get the project done.
Ha, yeah most of those kids are rednecks, but the problem is that rednecks are everywhere you go. Seriously, Butler is by far not the worst high school you could go to. The education system in the surrounding Pittsburgh areas is far superior to many areas of the country. You're coming out way ahead of a lot of kids. When I moved here, I was really surprised how badly the education system had failed them.
I moved to South Carolina because my parents moved here and college is a lot cheaper here than in PA. I used to go to WVU, but of course that's expensive and so is Pitt, so here I am in the South.

i'm in the sane boat as you dude only i didn't even talk to my grad project advisor yet
I'm doing a project about the Big Bang.
I'm not sure if it's the same as what you have to do. When I translate it literally my project is called an 'Investigation Competence'.

so you play video games and watch tv. idk what your senior project topic would entail but i would do something as to how popular tv shows has influenced our culture or whatever. same with video games. like guitar hero which has drastically influenced the music industry and the way youth listen to music. you can do it on the internet (youtube, myspace) and how that has created new opportunities for creative minds to become known in the industry. just throwin some ideas out.

I know exactly how you feel. I haven't even thought about my senior project, but I'm only a sophmore. But I want to get a head start on it, so I have time to work on it, after I figure out what I'm doing. But it's stressful, especially when my mom complains about why I don't know what to do for my project. She doesn't understand that I have time to decided, haha. (:

Oh, if you like video games you could make an actual video game for your project. My cousin did that for his project and he got an A++. Obviously he did really well on his. (:

Do cats like being thrown off the roof of the school? My hypothesis is that they do not, prove it wrong

That's an interesting idea. I like to write (and am in college for writing) and wrote my school's alma mater... It's a really small and new school so I wrote it and I think it might be used.
But...
So making a video game could be interesting. Or you could make a song...
