I know, this really doesn't have a whole lot of purpose other than: I love this fucking make of guitar. I've been seeing them around at guitar centers a lot lately, so I recommend keeping your eyes peeled and playing one if you see one. They're incredibly versatile! Anybody else play/own one? If not, what is your favorite guitar, and why?

fender jazzmaster.

after a long time of being as pro-gibson as you can be i played a jazzmaster and absolutely fell in love with it. it sounds absolutely phenominal and is the best investmnet ive made in a long time. only problem is the bridge pickup is a lot quiter than the neck

Just adjust the pickup heights. Moving the pickup closer to the strings will make it louder and moving it farther away will make it quieter. Adjust both pickups until you like the way they mix.

I'm going to get bashed, but my Tom DeLonge Epiphone is pure god.
I had a mexi-strat for a year before that, and an "Indiana" Guitar for about 4 years..haha, its sad what guitars you have to buy at first when your poor but the TD...wow.
haha.

Telecaster. Though I'm finding it impossible to get a non-shrill rhythm tone so I'm looking at a bunch of strats right now.

What gives the Tele its signature tone is the same thing that makes it so harsh - the large metal plate under the bridge pickup. It reflects the magnetic field up toward the strings for higher output and a greater emphasis on mid-range frequencies:

There's no real way around that. If you want tele tone, you need that metal plate. If you really wanted to, though, you could replace it with a strat pickup and get the strat bridge sound out of your tele. Or you could buy a Tele bridge routed for a humbucker and mount the two pickups next to each other. That would get you both sounds out of one guitar, plus you could wire them in series for a bridge humbucker... There's a million different things you could do really. What's important is to find out what tones you love, then and figure out a way to get those from your guitar. That will be a lot better - and cheaper - than buying a bunch of separate guitars.

Oh I love the Tele twang when I'm playing lead, but when I do rhythm work I need a less harsh sound that cuts through my other guitarist's P90s. I'm also buying another guitar so I can mod it to hell since my Tele is vintage and I don't really want to mess with it (A. because i'm not very handy, B. because I don't want to mess with its sale value) besides a PUP swap.

Are you majoring in music by any chance? haha

I play a generic Tele loaded with Seymour Duncans. It palys amazing though, great neck, great action. I'm really looking at getting either an ES-349 (smaller 335) or a Jazzmaster. They're so sexy.

I have a mexi-strat and a '65 Mustang reissue. They are probably my favorite guitars, but I'm dying to get that Eric Clapton sig Strat, if Jesus was a guitar it would sound and feel like that, it's sweeet.

Just bought one last week. I fucking love this thing. Between that and my Nighthawk, I can cover a tonal palette so wide I nearly shit every time I think of it.
