Ben Gibbard.

I appreciate what Dylan did for music, but he was before my time and I have no attachment to his music.

Max Bemis, because he's not included in this poll, doesnt really fit in this poll, but should/deserves to win anyway.

Can't say I've listened to very much Bob Dylan, but Conor Oberst is pretty good.

You should get on that Dylan thing. Possibly the best song writer of all time (you could argue Lennon)

All I have heard was Highway 61 Revisited and I loved it.What albums would you reccomend? He has so fucking many I don't know which ones are good.
Blonde on Blonde would be a good place to go next. Or perhaps Bringin' It All Back Home.

A lot of people like to start with "Blood on the Tracks" but you cannot go wrong with any of the following albums.

Another Side of Bob Dylan
Blonde on Blonde
Blood on the Tracks
Bob Dylan
Bringing It All Back Home
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Nashville Skyline
The Times They Are A-Changin'

I disagree I loved IDOTG. I think it is just as good as IARB.

i like the album. but i didn't think it was up to par with IARB. but, this is an opinion poll. so to each his own. i gave the other option for that very reason

Thanks alot. I noticed all his albums are his early ones except for Blood on The Tracks. Are his later ones not that good and are any of them worth listening too? Also does his sound change from album to album? I wouldn't want to listen to a bunch of albums that sound the same
He went through a period where he put out albums that were not very good but most of his sixties stuff is gold. His sound changes over time, Highway 61 has a more electric sound then some of his early stuff. Once you get through those albums then just check out the remaining ones for yourself because i like a lot of his later songs but not full albums like his early work.

i would say that for my time i picked other and picked Dustin Kensrue solo stuff. although he openly admits that Dylan is one of his strongest influences. so if i had listened to dylan more id of picked him.

i'm glad ben's doing well in this.

i think dylan has to be the best, cuz he covers so much ground. i always feel like conor tries to hard. ben might have some of the best writing ever written on paper. but i think he writes about relationships an overwheliming amount of the time. which don't get me wrong, is great. but dylan could write about anything.

Head says Bob Dylan, Heart says Ben Gibbard

while i enjoy both Connor and Ben, Robert Zimmerman is easily one of the greatest songwriters to ever live and his body of work trounces both Oberst's and Gibbard's at this point and time and likely will for the rest of time.

I really enjoy Gibbard's lyrics.

Aaron Marsh can't really stand next to Dylan, but his lyrics have affected me consistently as well.

for a class i argued that Bob Dylan was the greatest musician of all time on the basis that he has influenced more artists and bands from a range of the Beatles, Hendrix, and Nirvana. I got an A and my teacher said I proved my thesis perfectly... so I chose Bob Dylan

I went with Bob Dylan, his catalogues is way too strong and he's prolly my favorite singer-songwriter of all time. The only person who could compete is Neil Young, I'm surprised he's not on the list.

damn. i can't believe i forgot Shaky (Neil's nickname). the best acoustic performer ever. i think i'd take him over any of these three. for some reason he didn't come to mind when i was making this.

for anyone who's never listened to Neil:

go buy After the Goldrush. now!

it would still be in the poll's section then. no one's done this. they mighta had one of those singers in another poll or something, but not this exact thread lol i've been on this sight religiously the past two months. i wouldn't have missed that
