Portugal. The Man
Earl Greyhound
Wintersleep
The Subjects
I arrived when The Subjects were finishing up their set, but from what I heard was pretty okay.
It was my first time hearing the band Wintersleep. I thought they were a pretty tight band and good at what they were doing. Their melodies and harmonies were kind of repetitive, but all in all they were pretty good.
Next was Earl Greyhound, who are a three-piece from Brooklyn, NY. They took a really long time to set up their equipment, which was irritating, considering I just wanted to see Portugal. The Man. Then they started playing... I can honestly say that Earl Greyhound is the loudest band I have ever seen/heard. The distorted guitar amplified through a fucking full-stack, was just way too much in this tiny club, not to mention the woman bassist's screeching vocals. I don't know. I just wasn't really into it. They were very rock 'n roll. That's pretty much all I can say.
Portugal. The Man finally came on. They were amazing, this being my second time seeing them. The singer John was sick, so his voice wasn't at it's best, but damn was it still good. Only three songs from Censored Colors which was really weird. They also came with surprising news that they would be recording a brand new album in December and January.
Here's the set. I'm pretty sure it's in correct order. I could possibly be leaving one song out, but I think it's all there. It's fairly short, considering Earl Greyhound took a chunk out of their set and that there was a bogus noise curfew.
Portugal. The Man:
1. Church Mouth/One Is The Loneliest Number (awesome/unexpected)
2. Horse Warming Party
3. New Orleans
4. Bellies Are Full
5. Lay Me Back Down (amazing transition into Chicago)
6. Chicago
7. My Mind
8. Colors
9. AKA M80 The Wolf
no encore :(
The crowd was insane, which I wasn't expecting. Everyone was really into it, and it was a great time.
