With Zack and Miri and Role Models coming out the last two weeks, I was just wondering what everyone's opinions were.

i swear i was the only guy in the PE theater that wasn't pissing myself laughing. i knew step brothers would be hilarious.
as for tropic thunder... i was so ready to be let down by that movie. BUT IT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS!! so maybe because i wasn't expecting it to be so funny, actually made it really funny

Although I haven't seen it yet, I'm going to pencil in Zack and Miri... because it's fuckin' Kevin Smith man. (please refrain from Jersey Girl jokes, mkay? lol)

Saw Role Models today and I thought it was pretty funny, Pineapple Express is still better though.

Step Brothers got 2 viewings from me and Pineapple only had 1, so that's why I picked it. Much funnier.

I haven't seen about half of these but I went Step Brothers. PE and FSM were both excellent but Step Brothers made me laugh out loud so much that it was the obvious choice for me.

no forgetting sarah marshall love. disappointing.
thought it was better than pineapple express... only slightly, though.
and tropic thunder wasn't as good as everyone claimed it to be.

FSM > PE
However...that whole crew has not had a miss yet. Can't wait for more from them.

All of these other movies had really funny parts (sans Step-Brothers, which I found to be extremely dumb), but Forgetting Sarah Marshall is just on another level for me.

11/10/08, 12:40 AM
hahah I don't think anyone saw that. I do think you should have included You Don't Mess With the Zohan. I generally HATE Adam Sandler but I loved that movie and thought it was Adam Sandlers best movie besides Click. Is is just so goddamn silly.
You thought Zohan was that good? I liked it, but calling it Sandler's best movie over Click? I wouldn't take it that far.
Indoor Living
11/10/08, 12:48 AM
Well I really don't like his movies at all. This was completley unlike his other whiny pussy man child roles. It was written by Judd Apatow which may be the reason it is different than Adam Sandlers usual dogshit
So you're not a Happy Gilmore-era Sandler fan, I'm guessing?

That's right. I have seen all his comedies I just don't like them.
To each, their own, I guess.

I went with Zack and Miri here. But Pineapple and Sarah Marshall were awesome too. Screw Step Brothers, and Get Smart was a joke (of the unfunny kind).

step brothers should have been left out of here. will ferrell is not funny at all. he hasnt been in a decent movie in like 5 years.
Forgetting Sara Marshal was the best in my opinion, Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder were close though

Man, so many good comedies this year. I loovveedd Pineapple Express. Saw it twice in maybe a two week span and am awaiting it to come out on DVD to buy. I saw Step Brothers, love Reilly and Ferrel together, and loved that movie as well. It's been awhile since I've seen it but I think I'm leaning towards PE. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was awesome but just not as laugh out loud funny as PE and SB..Tropic Thunder was amazing on the first viewing but on the second viewing I didn't think it was as great. Still need to see Role Models and Zack and Miri.
To the guy that said In Bruges...sweet flick, bought it before I even saw it, but I would not classify it as a comedy and in a group with these films.
Pineapple Express by far. but i think that i need to see Zach and Miri first

This has been an amazing year for comedies for sure. This was a very tough choice between Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, and Step Brothers for me. I went with Tropic Thunder because I found myself laughing hysterically that entire movie. Jack Black was the funniest in that movie imo, such as the time he was tied to the tree
Tropic Thunder. "Huh? Were you talkin' to me that whole time?"

I want to see Role Models and Zack and Miri, Harold and Kumar can go fuck themselves, and I've seen the rest. I have to go with Step Brothers. I loved Get Smart, but the humor was more of a "look at me, I'm clumsy" humor. Pineapple Express
Tropic Thunder had its funny moments (especially all Tom Cruise scenes), but once I was done watching it, I just felt like I didn't laugh nearly as much as I thought I would. I thought Pineapple Express was pretty funny too, but I don't know, maybe I'm just tired of pot humor. Oh, and all the drawn-out dialogue (bleh) and action (a nice change) kind of killed the humor. On the other hand, I love all Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly stuff, and Step Brothers just had so many hilarious lines and scenes. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was good and definitely had its moments, but was too much of a love story to really be as continually funny as something like Step Brothers.
EDIT: Really, Pineapple Express is winning by that much? Half the damn movie was stoned people acting like fucktards (i.e. stoned) and talking for unnecessarily long periods of time. Have you people never been around potheads before? They get really annoying.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is my favorite comedy of the year and Role Models is right behind it. Pineapple Express is OK but nothing amazing. I have a screener at home and the second time I watched it, it wasn't so funny. The beer must have helped the first viewing. I've seen all of the movies listed. Too bad Fanboys didn't make it out this year.

You must not be a fan of stoner comedies and miss the point of them. The humor is those movies revolves around being high, acting stupid, making no sense, making dumb decisions, and rambling about nothing. Stoner comedies will always be funny if they are done right.
...will always be funny to those who find such humor funny. I'm sorry, but having a stoner roommate for a year was enough to make me not find "stoner humor" that funny, and mostly just annoying. I'm sure it's more amusing if you're:
1. the person getting high and doing stupid shit
2. you yourself are/have been a stoner
But I'm neither of those, and I'm fine with that. Let me restate that I found the movie funny, but it was way too much of a stoner movie for me.

I see your point . People I know that get high, myself included, tend to enjoy stoner stuff more than the average person. Depending on the person having a stoner roommate might be fucking awful. Could you please describe you roommate
Eh, he switched from electrical engineering to modern languages after one semester, claiming EE was too hard, so last year (our junior year) my other roommates and I very rarely observed him actually doing any work. He would therefore invite his gross, overweight friend over at least every other day. The friend would drink shitty beer and they would both toke up, then they would play Guitar Hero very loudly for awhile before going off to a comedy club to tell shitty jokes. Aside from that common situation, when said roommate got high, he would just walk around with red eyes and a smile on his face, laughing at everything, saying things he thought were funny. He also listened to his music way too loud and he wasn't the greatest at cleaning up after himself.
Yeah yeah, I know I sound like a whiny bitch, but I just got tired of him, even when he stopped smoking about halfway through the year. It obviously wasn't just the fact that he was a stoner that annoyed me, but I still don't care for that lifestyle.
i thought zack and miri was absolutely hilarious but i guess it's because im somewhat of a pervert
