Hey guys, I've been recording for a while using a Line 6 TonePort. I'm starting to get a little sick of the tones provided by GearBox, and I really want to find a decent program that would provide a great pop punk tone. I know the best way to get a good tone is to mic your amp, but my amp's tone sucks, and all I want is a tone that will leave me with a great sound after recording. Price is not an issue. Thanks!

If price isn't an issue, then the answer is simple:
REPLACE YOUR AMP!
Not only will you be able to get better sounds recording, you'll be able to replicate it live.
Why don't you just mess with the parameters provided in GearBox?
Usually the presets suck, but you gotta work with it before you find something you like.

Yeah, if you've got the money, why not replace your amp?
Also, what type of tones are you going for here?

What the others said, but just so you know, there's really not a "pop punk tone". Just give your guitar a bit of gain and turn the mids up a little, you should get a sound like you want. (Assuming you get some decent equipment.)

if we're speaking preferences here, for those music styles i always say go for a marshall JCM800 or JCM900 (make sure the 900 is not a "dual reverb" model though)
an orange rockerverb would be quite suitable as well

I think that really depends on what kind of tone he's looking for.

Tons of pop punk bands use Mesas, including MXPX and Blink 182.

the only mesa i would personally choose for that kind of music is the dual rectifier, but a JCM900 from ebay would be far cheaper. and either way id have to snag a marshall (or avatar) cab with celestion G12T-75s, or if the music will be produced with an atmospheric vibe that puts less focus on the guitars i'd take greenbacks.

I think the single rec is usually better than the dual.

For any good guitar tone via a computer all you need is AMPLITUDE (thats a program)!
However, if as you say, money is not an issue its always better and much coooooler to actually get a good amp. For me Mesa Boogies tend to sound a bit too 'paper bag' wheras Marshall JCM's tend to sound more defined (if you get me). The best amp Iv ever heard though is an ENGL POWERBALL.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet as a nut!

Buy a Vox Tonelab.
They have the best PreSets EVER.
If you're looking for a pop punk blink feel.
Using pure solid state always sounds like dooty after a while anyways.
I suggest buying the Behringer Ultragain Mic-100 preamp.
Its probably my favorite thingamajig in my home set up.
