vote on the biggest (not your favorite) bands of the 00's....try and vote for 10 bands, i dont know how to allow a minimum of votes so pick bands that you think are the most popular, biggest, influential, overplayed, staples of the decade.

You listed way too many bands who are obviously not the right answer. It's make the poll annoying to look at and allows stupid people to vote for Brand New and Paramore.
yeah I was thinking that....but when people made lists of the 90s decade, people were giving me answers like Wilco and Sunny Day real estate over nirvana....so I thought people would like to vote for stuff like that

How are people getting in a tizzy over Coldplay? I may not enjoy their music but that hasn't stopped them from selling 40 million records worldwide. Them and Radiohead are the only bands you could honestly just drop into any household and expect any denizen to know who you're talking about.

Fall Out Boy seems to be gaining steam, but they've really only been relevant for 3/8 years max. And if there's anything I've learned from my accounting exams, it's that 3/8 just won't cut it.

Here's the ones out of this list that in my opinion actually deserve to be on there, along with explanations on why I think they do (I have way too much free time... hah)

Fall Out Boy (Like them or not, they were always at the forefront of the mainstream's perception of "emo" culture. Their albums sold in the millions at a time where that just rarely ever happened, and they've ruled everything from top 40 to modern rock radio to MTV/Fuse. Not listing them would be like not listing Bon Jovi in a biggest bands of the 80's list)

Green Day (Even if they don't release another album in this decade, let's face it: American Idiot was HUGE. 4 gigantic singles, huge record sales, sold out arenas, etc. You could not go anywhere in 2004/2005 without hearing or seeing Green Day. Like it or not, a new generation was introduced to them and I believe American Idiot may have been the biggest rock album of the entire decade)

Coldplay (This is an easy one... They absolutely belong on here. Tons of hits, millions of fans, critical respect... their prescense in this decade was inescapeable. Whether you like them or your one of those "you know how I know your gay..."? people, you can't deny how influential/important Coldplay is)

The Killers (Some may disagree with this one, but they spearheaded the whole post-punk revival movement that happened in the middle of the decade. "Hot Fuss" was a pretty huge album, and even though "Sam's Town" wasn't as big, it still had "When You Were Young" which ended up being one of their biggest hits. I think they'll be a band that sticks around into the next decade)

Muse (Easily the biggest British band of the decade right behind Coldplay. Even modern artists are already claiming to be influenced by Muse, and it's pretty easy to see why. They may have only had a few hits here in America, but just go on YouTube and watch a video of Muse playing in any other continent, and you'll see why they belong on here.)

Blink 182 (Even though they only actually released 2 albums in this decade, the peak of their fame was in 2000/2001, so I believe they should still count. I believe alot of people really began to feel their influence after they broke up, and their albums are sort of like evergreens. Their songs are still always in rotation on rock stations, kids will be discovering them and learning their songs on guitar for years and years to come, and drummers will be looking at Travis Barker as a role model probably until the end of time now. Plus, they released what is IMO their best album, 2003's "Untitled", in this decade.)

My Chemical Romance (Basically the explanation for Fall Out Boy and MCR are inter-changeable, although I think it should be noted that MCR seems to have an even more rabid, cult-like fan base than FOB. Even to this day, 2 years since they've released new material, it's still pretty much impossible to go into a mall and not see kids wearing MCR shirts, and I think that says something)

The White Stripes (What other garage rock band from early on in the decade is still as successful/well known as The White Stripes? The hype around The Strokes pretty much faded out after their first album, and same with The Hives and The Vines... but The White Stripes definetly came out on top. They made the guitar learner's anthem of the decade, "Seven Nation Army", and they helped keep blues based-rock alive in the mainstream.)

Blink 182? The only released two albums and broke up before halfway into this decade.

Is this about the literal biggest bands? Who sold the most? We can wikipedia that shit right now. Although it would be pretty annoying to compare record sales of 60 different bands...

Or is this supposed to be about the most influential bands? The ones whose sound changed the direction of mainstream music at the time completely?

Or is this about the best bands? The bands who simply made the best music in the decade, whatever that means?

Fail by ambiguity
