I'm suprised it took them this long to send out advances, usually they're sent out a month and a half before the labum comes out. Also, the disc is copyright protected, rip proof, burn proof, and youc ant even play it on your computer. The band isn't that big at all, and I thought theyw ouldn't mind it leaking early, for hype purposes. Odd.

why doesn't every artist protect it like that? Everyone is always upset about downloading and leaking, wouldn't that solve it all?

Ehhh, that's pretty fucking dumb. I doubt it'll be available on ITunes either. I don't really listen to CDs anymore. I have an iPod, I bought the Alpine adapter so it plays in my car and I can just stream my iTunes over my stereo in my room. So making it impossible to play on a computer (and thus an iPod) is just plain dumb. Whoever's idea it was to make the CD that way needs to be fired because TREOS is probably going to miss out on a lot of publicity.

I have a promo copy for Outsmarting Simon and it has all those protections to. I trried to listen it on my computer didn't work, I tried it on my CD Walkmen, didn't work. So I gave up.
I have a promo copy for The Higher as well but haven't listend. And no, I will not be sending it to anyone.

yeah, The Higher is smart though, bc they have a copyright protection advance, but they also have a secret website with a password so you can stream the whole disc on the computer if you want.
Anyway, about TREOS, everyone who says theyre "typical screamo" couldn't be any further off target with this album. Seriously, some of the wackiest shit ever as far as effects and stuff go. They have clips of other songs in other songs and really weird/random piano lines and totally weird shit. The shortest songs is over 5 minutes long and I was pleasantly suprised with how un-cliche it is...caught me off guard.

Damn you Frank for having TREOS and not sharing it with the world (aka me ;)). I guess I'll just have to wait till the 26th, but with the hype you built up on it and the amazon.com samplers, I'm getting too anxious.

That's a shame. I love my CD's. No offense but it seems your indie Knife Party is rather digitial.

Haha, Well I will say two things. First of all, I do purchase the album on iTunes or the actual CD if I like it. And charity CDs like "In Honor..." I purchase as well. But all of the music goes on my iPod. It's just easier. I can control my entire iPod from the face of my deck in my car. It's like having a 1000 CD changer. It's really great.
I will say this though. Back before everything leaked early and you could get it online months in advance, when you had to physically drive to a record store and purchase an album and listen to it on the way home, I enjoyed getting new music more back then. There's something to be said for taking the wrapper off a cd and reading the liner notes as you listen to something completely new for the first time. Maybe I'll go back to that.
I don't know that KnifeParty is any more or less digital than AP.net. I don't know the inner-workings of AP, so I can't say.

Oh I agree with AP too. It's sad. I love buying CD's. Oh well, I'm getting an iPod soon as well, doesn't mean I won't stop purchasing CD's. It's like a collection to me.
I guess I was more attacking the kids that claim they are "indie" or "hardcore" or "emo" or whatever other tags are out there... but they don't own over twenty CD's. Just digitial, which I don't get.

Ahhh, well to be honest with you, and not to start another huge feud or anything. But AP.net and all of our other critics were the ones who labeled us "Indie." We rolled with it but that was never the original intention. And we don't walk around with the "Indie" stick up our asses either. I mean I think the prototypical "Indie Elitist" site is Pitchfork, and that's the exact opposite of what we try to be.
At any rate, I think very few people are "Indie" or "Hardcore" or "Emo." It's trendy to say and act on, but very few kids actually get it right. And "Emo" is nearly impossible to pull of because no one can really define what "Emo" is. I've heard 50 different definitions and they all disagree on who is and isn't "Emo."
As for CD collections. I admit I have more CDs on my computer than in my CD binder, but I do have a pretty respectable collection. I'll buy the album if I like it, as I said, and I like to think that most people would do that same. But the name of the game has changed. iTunes and Napster have changed it and music is getting more and more digital. This happened when music when from Vinyl to casette and then from casette to CD and now it's going from CD to .mp3. Pretty soon it will be probably shift to .m4a and then who knows. It's an ever-changing medium.

I'm hoping that once I can get my own source of money I will start buying albums more.
It's fun going to places and just looking through every single cd and finding things. It's so much more rewarding than searching on the internet.
