im not afraid to mention they were a pretty prevalent influence on my album.

I used to hate Relient K because my older brother brainwashed me to hate pop punk... Then, I finally listened to them, and was shocked and perplexed to find out that they are, actually, really good. They're in my top 5 favorite pop punk bands for sure. Mmhmm is excellent.

In a way it was the same for me. I used to never get along with people who listened to pop punk, but after finally giving them a listen, they were the band that opened the door to that style of music for me.

haha, well, I care about Relient K a lot more than most of the regulars. Favorite Album? Mine is Two Lefts don't make a Right, but Three Do. I have the dark blue cover and my disc is pink :)
word. that album is cute, and really honest sounding, and just as well "jefferson aeroplane" is easily one of their best songs as is "chapstick/chappedlips/things like chemistry". but mmhmm is just a damn good pop-punk album through and through. just 100% sugary energy, and this might be giving them too much credit haha but you can tell matt thiessen is influenced by an unusual blend of NOFX and the beach boys when he constructs his melodies haha. hes one of my favorite pop-punk vocalists for sure.
if any band defines nostalgia for me as far as my previous affinity for early 2000s pop-punk music, which i dont intend to lose anytime soon (considering i just released an album that blatantly and unabashedly attempts to revive that sound), i'd take relient K even over like fall out boy's TTTYG and taking back sunday's TAYF, which is actually really controversial on a site like this. but i would, those albums dont tend to do it for me like relient k's mmhmm does.
ive been revisiting that kind of music lately though, as i dont have headphones atm so i cant fully appreciate atmospheric hipster shit without bad sound quality ruining the experience, and i must say even though im not generally interested in the genre anymore save 4 or 5 bands... i still really fucking like those 4 or 5 bands haha.

For sure, I love 'Jefferson Airplane', soo gooood. I was just listening to Two Lefts the other day in my car. That is one of the best things about Relient K, how honest and genuine they always are. In all these years, I have never seen anything bad about them. They put on a great show and they just seem like really nice dudes.
i must say even though im not generally interested in the genre anymore save 4 or 5 bands... i still really fucking like those 4 or 5 bands haha.
Yeah I hear you. That happens whenever you move on. I remember the mass exodus of CDs that came with the end of my nu-metal/alternative phase from high school. I dumped so much crap, but I kept just a few records that have turned out to have remarkably good staying power with me even as my tastes continue to change. My two favorites are debut albums by bands that promptly fell off the face of the earth after their release, despite a lot of promise. Those are Injected's 'Burn it Black' and Pressure 4-5 'Burning the Process'. Same thing with Pop/Punk for sure, I will like New Found Glory, Relient K, and No Use for a Name, for many years to come, but I have gotten rid of a lot of pop/punk filler on my itunes.

Sadly, because they're a Christian band.

Sadly, because they're a Christian band.
That is sad. I'm not even a Christian and I like this band. Yes, they talk about their faith in some of their songs, but I don't think that the religious overtones are that obvious. It's not like they beat you over the head with the Bible during their songs.

That's true.
I am a Christian, and I think the fact that they talk about God (whether it is obvious or not) in their lyrics is a deterrent for people.
Having said that though, they are a good band, and there are certain people around here that give them lots of love.
Check the front page, Tate just posted some news about them.. apparently their new album is pretty much done.

it's amazing. it's a much more mature sound, which sometime spells death for someone as poppy and full of bubblegum love as relient k, but matt thiessen completely pulls it off.

They've not played here since I've been a fan. I jumped on the bandwagon just after the Two Lefts release. They've definitely got a big enough following to play here. I'm surprised they've never supported Switchfoot or a band along those lines just to get themselves going over here. I reckon they'd draw enough fans in from a headline show though. I'm not sure why they've never come over.

Relient K is my favorite band. Right now, I'd have to say that I like FANSD better than mmhmm, but that can always change back and forth. The Nashville Tennis EP portion of Birds and the Bee Sides is probably some of my favorite stuff they've done so it ranks close to mmhmm and FANSD for me. Then probably Two Lefts > Five Score > Self Titled > Anatomy.

So, I'm hoping people will actually see this...
I am hosting a Relient K marathon on June 10th from 7 AM to 1 AM on 88.3 FM The Sting, located in Berea, Ohio (near Cleveland). We'll be playing 18 hours of Relient K-including side projects, acoustic songs, covers, and their biggest hits, of course. I'm also trying to put together some giveaways. You can listen on 88.3 FM if you are local or listen online from anywhere at www.wbwc.com (http://www.wbwc.com).
I want as many people as possible to know about this! So please spread the word! There is an event set up on Facebook as well.
Also, if anyone has any rare tracks or anything Relient K related please message me on here with the link of where I can get the songs. I can also give you my e-mail address so you can send me the actual file if that's easier.
Thanks so much!

I saw Deas Vail two nights ago and they had free Mono vs. Stereo stickers, so now I have a Deas Vail sticker and a Relient K sticker on my laptop. /badattemptatdiscussion

I'm curious. Was the non acoustic version of Hope For Every Fallen Man every released? I had it before, but I can't find it anywhere now.
If it hasn't been released, can someone send me a link?
