I live in Pittsburgh,
And its basically a musical blackhole.
There are NO good bands from here, (except Punchline)
and I know nobody as interested in making music as me.
I need help getting started in a band.
Finding members, etc.

PLEASE HELP

No matter which city you currently reside in, there will be plenty of "musicians" or people who want to become musicians. You just need to be persistent in distinguishing them from people who have musical aspirations but will ultimately waste their time and yours. Place classified ads on popular social network sites ( craigslist, myspace, backpage etc). Place ads in local music stores and network yourself amongst friends & aquaintances.

What your saying is impossible. The entire New English part of America is loaded with bands and musicians, just keep looking!
If you think where you live is bad, try moving down here...
I hope you like screamo music. haha
I live in Pittsburgh and think our scene is filled with good bands.

In my opinion (emphasis on that) the best band IN Pittsburgh right now (just throwing that out there since Sam didn't list them).
Sam also listed some decent up and comers that will hopefully bring things back to how they were a few years ago. I would say things are definitely on their way up (and by that I mean hopefully coming out of that whole hxc phase the city's music scene seemed to have went through). As for finding musicians, that's another can of worms depending on where you live.

I lived in Pittsburgh for three years. Started a band the last year. The scene is awful. No one helps each other, unless they are already in with each other.
That list above is the same shit bands that have been there for at least 5 years. Nothing Unexpected is awful.
I do enjoy random people who are still on Paul's nuts, even though every person I have met who has known him as said he is a gigantic tool. The Composure is boring at best.
When we told a certain band we moved to Pittsburgh to try and start a band (I was out there for school and brought two people out to start the band), a certain member said: "You are crazy, go back to Arizona."

First off, I agree with most of what you said here. I don't consider myself to be "on Paul's nuts" and I don't think The Composure is some amazing-gonna make it huge kind of band, but I do think that compared to most of what we have around here it's a welcome change (and that isn't based off of any personal opinions towards anyone in the band, have never met them and couldn't really care if I ever did). Felt I needed to clear that up.
All that being said, I think it's nice just to have music around (even if some of it is pretty mediocre) and have some kind of local scene (even if it is pretty weak right now). I remember when I was younger and going to see sold out all-local shows, and I've also been to (and booked) shows that absolutely nobody came too. I think it's safe to say that the bands that work hard and actively try to sell their tickets for shows and such are the ones who see decent turnouts and the bands that just think they are able to draw (and essentially don't try to promote/sell) will continue to play to 5 people.

I have to disagree I've gotten help from bands may it be booking, constructive criticism, and other contacts and such from many of the bigger local bands from around here with no problem. I'm not sure what you meant by no one helps anyone out, maybe just a bad experience that's carried over to your overall out look on this scene.
Also I think The Composure puts out great music, it might not be the most fun music to watch live but it's better than what most bands are doing.
I'm also not trying to defend our scene. I could think of a ton of things that would make it better and I'm there is a huge list of local scenes that are much better, but I've heard kids talk about from other areas when we've played out of the region that there's hardly any scene there which would suck. I can always look forward to going to see some kind of show in Pittsburgh every weekend, may it be a local show or a touring band I enjoy.
Also, just because you don't enjoy a band's music doesn't make them "awful" as you said about Nothing Unexpected.

No, their complete lack of talent and originality makes them awful.

NU is pretty generic if you ask me, I don't hate them for it but it's probably not going to get them very far. Also the fact that they bring (or used to bring) their own light setup to shows was kind of... odd?

Same here. Memphis is exactly the same. I could post the names of at least 30 local christian screamo bands, that all sound the same. It's horrible.

Everywhere is the same, make the most of what you've got. I used to think Ohio sucked until I moved to Virginia, went on a few tours... It's all about the people you know and what you do with what you've got... I mean, I've been in New York City and heard locals say "this place sucks, there's nothing to do here"

I've visited New York and several other places and almost every where I've been has been better than Memphis. The whole city is poor and despite the whole Elvis Presley and Blues thing, the music here sucks. People are all super preppy or ghetto, it's just not a good place to live. When I visited NYU for 2 weeks it was so awesome, probably the best experience of my life.

This is exactly how it is here in Salt Lake City. The same 6 or 7 bands play shows with each other and no one else.
