Sorry if this has been done before, I searched "albums" and nothing came up in the first three pages so fuck it. If you can find another, by all means send a link my way.
I'll post mine in a little while. Still deciding on it.

I even reviewed a BFS album on Sputnik at a 4, I don't if A Love American PI found that out.
Clearly your high status on this website (which you actively work towards achieving) would be diminished if this became common knowledge!

Oh and, just a comment on your list. EITS above Godspeed? Not cool man.
Ahhh oh, well I haven't been on this site in a while so I kind of was wondering how much had changed around here haha.
Sorry about that, Godspeed You! is one of my favorite bands, definitely, but EINAC,DP is barely better than F#A#, for me anyway.

It's all good, dude, I just don't care for EITS really.
Well I can see why one wouldn't like them, they're kind of the CIWWAF of post-rock lol.

This is in no particular order. And it strikes a comfortable balance between the albums that have been most important in terms of defining the way I approach music, the ones I listen to the most often, and the ones I think are simply the best executed. Most of these hit all three criteria; some only fulfill one or two.

Sweet list
Sketches of Spain > Kind of Blue > Bitches Brew > In A Silent Way > Birth of the Cool.
I don't have any others yet.
Bitches Brew is both his worst and best of the ones I have. It's the most ambitious and the most rewarding when you get it but it's extremely hard going and the lack of 'pleasant' notes really takes it toll on you. Yet at the same time if you're really in the mood 'Bitches Brew' hits harder than any of his others. I'm just rarely in that mood.

Totally agree with what you said about Bitches Brew. It's the weirdest and most eccentric and for that reason it's nice once in a while but when I kick back and just want to chill to some jazz, I will never put that album on. It's good, though.
Also, you should check out Love Songs and The Musings Of Miles next. He's got such a massive, intimidating discography. I have a few other of his albums (Pangaea, Decoy, Agharta, Seven Steps To Heaven) downloaded but haven't listened yet.

I've noticed lots of people picking John Coltrane and Miles Davis, which seems odd for a generally punk site, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.
I'm a casual jazz fan, but find myself enjoying it more and more all the time as I get older. I'm familiar with a few Coltrane songs, and love "So What" by Miles Davis, but is there some music by these two guys I should be downloading immediately? I'd like to check this stuff out.

Get Kind Of Blue first; probably the most accessible jazz album of all time. If you like what you hear, then you can look into other artists as well as free jazz and fusion stuff which can be really great as well.

Surprised to see De Stijl above any other White Stripes releases, same with Takk above any other Ros.
The White Stripes are my favorite band. I could listen to all of their albums forever, if need be. De Stijl is the one I usually turn to first. Some of my favorite Stripes songs are on there. Death Letter, Truth Doesn't Make A Noise, Apple Blossom, and Let's Build A Home are all in my top 100 songs. I feel that it's one of their most consistant records.
About Sigur Ros, to be honest, I haven't listened to Ágætis Byrjun in it's entirety yet. Takk is on there because of Glosoli, and Hoppipolla. I could listen to Glosoli a hundred times, and it would make me cry everytime. It's just that beautiful. Hoppipolla is almost as beautiful, but stops short. And then of course on Takk there's Sæglópur which is pretty much perfect.
You're right, tho, the brackets album should be on that list.

My dad has Kind of Blue, I've heard it many times. "Freedy Freeloader" (?) kinda blends right into "So What", not a killer CD in my opinion but maybe I should give it another listen. What about Coltrane...

That is the only EITS disc I listen to but I think that is a really good song. Can't take too much of them at once though. It's kind of a, when I am in the right mood it is REALLY good, but otherwise don't really spin it a lot, CD.

I recently had to write a comprehensive Top 50 list for the campus paper, under the "holiday albums recommendation list." It was an exhaustive thing to do - a sincere attempt to compartmentalize favorite albums and attempt to rank them. So, at the time of writing and the issue going to press, this is my Top 50. I can most assuredly guarantee this will change dramatically at various points in my life.

I am so backed up on listening to stuff... but I've been planning on getting to older REM for a while. Really been loving the two albums I listed on there.. are hte older albums at all comparable?
Yeah as R.E.M. goes, nothing is better than Automatic For The People. But I love Murmur, Document and Reveal as close number twos. If anyone hasn't heard their new album Accelerate, I highly recommend it.

Arguably better. Out of Time is probably around middle-of-the-road for me if I were to rate their entire discography, maybe a little better, although it has some absolutely phenominal tracks.

If anyone hasn't heard their new album Accelerate, I highly recommend it. There are some things about Accelerate that really bug me, namely how it sounds. But it was a pleasant surprise, for sure. Reveal as #2? Interesting. I need to listen to the newer stuff, like after New Adventures and before Acclerate.

you seriously just put radiohead and interpol before U2?
What? It is entirely subjective, and there are much more mediocre bands than Radiohead and Interpol on that list that are higher than U2.

I never understood the love for Explosions in the Sky. I've listened to the "Earth is a Cold..." and that Hand song which gets extreme amounts of love on here and it was just boring...
Neither have I. All my friends love them, but I just can't get into them. I can listen to a few songs, but not a full album.
The only Post-Rock that I can consistently listen to is Russian Circles. I love them.
