my boyfriend did that
he went vegetarian and then went vegan, but he got really sick and...weird...after that. so now he's just back to vegetarian.
so be careful, i guess.

I've been vegetarian (partially) for about 3 years now. I did it gradually until I found out what meals I could make for myself that would give me all the nutrients I need. I started with not eating pig products then a few months to a year later, all red meat. I do have eggs, milk and occasional salmon.

I didn't do it out of "being cool or trendy" or animal rights, although I am appauled at what goes on in slaughter houses. It was more for health reasons, too much of our food is chemically "fooled" around with just for the sake of producing more meat to gain more profit. Yet, that's America for you. I grew up eating meat pretty regularly and I'm 5'11'' (although my dad is 6'5' I think the growth hormones might have affected my height) and compared to other girls my age that didn't eat as much meat as me, I'm a bit more chesty to leave it at that. 30 years ago the meat wasn't as tainted as it is today, I probably would be a lot smaller and healthier.

As for going into a strict vegan diet, do research first. Make sure you get your protein and other minerals. My friend went vegan without researching and she got really sick. Beans and peanut butter are awesome sources of protein. There are also great meat alternatives and don't be afraid to try tofu, just season it well.

i said the same thing, and i've been doing really well. my fiance is vegan and also thought he couldn't give up chicken. he hasn't had it in about a year. his friend matt also swore he never could and he's been vegetarian for about 7 months now.

i gave up red meat for good a while ago, i slowly eased myself into it by giving things up one at a time, it sucks, but once you realize you don't need it, you're fine.

i went raw vegan for a month and wanted to cry. now i'm back to just vegetarian, which isn't really as hard as people would think. you just have to make sure you're getting enough protein and vitamins (especially B12).
