srsly though, I'm sorry if I stole a thread from you haha. I think when it comes to bands like this, the decision to make an official thread is like when you run into someone in the hallway and one of you keeps trying to go the other way but then they go that same way and you can't decide who goes, you know? Whatever. I'm hungry.

how does their debut compare to sink or swim?

AP_Punk

how does their debut compare to sink or swim?

i think sink or swim is way better. but this is a pretty nice solid debut for a newbie-ish band. and it has guest vocals by brian fallon.

rad.

CellarGhosts

Ehhhhh...I dunno if I wanna start comparing this band to Gaslight. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love TGA and all, but I'd like for these guys to be seen as more than "just that band who shared a label with Gaslight Anthem at one time". Sure the Brian Fallon guest vocal is sweet, but still...Idk.

I'm working on a review of it right now, and I think 8/10 or maybe 7.5/10 would be what I'd give it on that rating system. But since this site uses a slightly different system than that, I'm not sure what percentage it'll end up being for me.

Justin_stacy

haha what i ment to say was "do you think this album will have the same effect on the punk communtiy as sink or swim did?" dick.

no, its not as good, and has a weak second half. Numerous bands sound like this, Let Me Run doesn't have the lyrics or the singer to set them apart like Gaslight does.

CellarGhosts

To a Gaslight level? Or to just be an above average 'punk' band like The Loved One's?
I just think they show potential to become more than just an average punk band following in Gaslight's footsteps or whatever. I dunno if I'd say they've got "Gaslight level" potential, but I think they could be one of the more popular acts like, yeah, the Loved Ones, etc.

hey guys... this is mike from devildance records. im putting out the vinyl version of the let me run lp... i've had a copy for a while. after a LOT of listens i could honestly say it has moments where it sounds like gaslight, i mean brian guests on the damn thing... but it also has moments where it sounds like thursday, the low end theory, and basically all of the other NJ bands that influenced their sound over the years.. i mostly just feel like theyre carrying on the torch for the central jersey punk sound.. carrying on tradition... and mixing in some of their broader influences like hot water music, the polar bear club, and elliott. i personally really don't hear to much jawbreaker. but maybe thats just me. the point is, after you actually listen to this record for more than a few minutes, you quickly realize that the "they sound like the gaslight anthem" argument is kind of a bunch of shit, unless by saying that you just mean that they sound like a jersey band, because frankly even the gaslight dudes have been kicking around new jersey in various other bands which also helped to shape their own sound. i think people are just jumping on that comparison because gaslight are a huge band and LMR are on the same label... its an obvious and easy comparison for someone quickly reviewing the record, who didn't REALLY listen to it. and i can't say its TOTALLY wrong because like i said brian actually sings on the damn thing. but in all reality after a long long listen i would say that this is a stellar record in its own right. im really excited to see how its recieved by the general punk song listening public. and im all in favor of the gaslight anthem analogy being stricken from message boards and websites all over everywhere. anyways with that said... if anyone wants to get a jump on the 7" this happened late last week...

I'm friends with the guys in Let Me Run and thought I'd post some info here to clear up a few things:

Brian Fallon sings on the tracks "Here's My Destroyer" and "I Don't Stomp, I Battle"

The band will be selling their record at some shows, including their record release show on November 26th in New Brunswick. The official street date is in January and the record will be in stores everywhere.

Let Me Run is playing an awesome show with The Bouncing Souls and The Gaslight Anthem on December 28th at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park.

I think they showed alot of potential in the debut, but are still missing some of the key components that would put this release in the running for a 'best' of marker. Its hurt by poor mixing, the guitar/drum over power the vocals far too often in the chorus, a killer for me, and the last half of the album has no real standout track.

I'd put them in that group of bands who have shown that they are one, maybe two, releases away from making something truly great. Madison Bloodbath, Living With Lions, Fallen From The Sky and the Casting Out were other key membes of this group this year.....all are really talented bands, that were missing that little extra punch that would have set their albums apart.

yeah, it was that show. i mean, it was a secret show in the basement of a bar with like, maybe 200 people tops all down to fuck shit up, so maybe it wasnt the average experience youll get with them, but still, they were awesome.

and speaking of awesome...

not sold on this album yet, i'll be writing a review for it within the next week after I spin it more. Wish it wasn't all one tempo for the most part, needs some diversity in the songwriting, although the lyrics are pretty good. It's a better version, lyrically at least, of Fallen From The Sky.

^ very true, as I've said in this thread before the albums has its faults, but over the last month I've found myself turning to it more and more. Particularly on short drives as the first 5 songs really standout compared to the back half.

i take back my previous statement, the lyrics aren't that great save for a few good lines. And teh song "Here's My Destroyer" is their attempt at mellow and it sounds terrible. I think I like this less with each listen, because when I got it a month or so ago, I was excited, now I really dread each repeated listen.

see, i actually think my favorite songs come in around the middle or so (Oh My Levees, I Never Said I Could Sing, Bastard Sons Of Mayhem, I Don't Stomp I Battle), but I know what you mean.

the 7" hasn't been mailed out yet. orr actually i think they were finally shipped off a few days ago. so people should be getting 'em soon/next week, like me! annd i'm not sure if they're different versions or just plain album tracks. i think there's a demo of "i don't stomp" out there. or maybe that's called an "unmastered version". i guess i'll find out in a few days when i get mine. haha.

Infact I've been taken lately with bands that play a similar, for lack of a better term, 'Brunswick' sound. I've amassed quite the collection and most are damn good, far better then what I'm used to with local bands.

color me excited. I love talking about new bands with people.

Honey Red (http://www.myspace.com/honeyredrocknroll) - Just put this on my Ipod and I've listen too it numerous times.

The Escape Engine (http://www.myspace.com/theescapeengine) - broken up, but the albums really good

Knockdown (http://www.myspace.com/theknockdown) - poppier then most

pela (http://www.myspace.com/pela) - more of an alternative rock band, beautiful vocials.

we.re all broken (http://www.myspace.com/wereallbroken) - love this band, see avatar.

scream hello (http://www.myspace.com/screamhello) - probably heard of them

madison bloodbath (http://www.myspace.com/madisonbloodbath) - not from jersey, but I love their new album, would've made my top ten had it been recorded better.

have you heard of Landmines (www.myspace.com/landminesrock) or Fallen From the Sky (www.myspace.com/landminesrock), or The Ducky Boys (http://www.myspace.com/duckyboys)? Slightly different sound, but some of my favorite punk bands.

Hey guys,

The popcast was an awesome time. Karen and Rajon made us tacos, and we drank way too much. The podcast was Define the Meaning's first broadcast of live music, so it was staticy and the levels were off, but it was a great time none the less. We all couldnt keep our mouths shut and talk one at a time, and Travis was a bit inebriated and screwed some songs up, but we had a blast! A big thanks to Karen and Rajon for putting up with us and hosting a solid time. Everyone should check out Define the Meaning Magazine. They are doing great stuff.

Trav ended up playing(in no particular order: Live Grenades, We Bring the Booze, Shane, and a new song we play live a lot lately entitled "All Ears, All Eyes" which as most of you know is not on the record, the 7in, or any of the countless rips of our album scattered across the worldwide web.

Also, that list of band is great. Definitely check out Scream Hello and We're All Broken. I(Trevor) actually recorded those Honey Red songs(It was a sad attempt, but I'm sticking to it) in my basement. More from those guys soon.

Okay enough typing. PA throwdown this weekend. See you all very soon and once again thank you for the support, it means the world to us.

Hello friends. We have some very exciting news to kick off 2009. We will be putting out an EP with our great friends at Devildance Records. It will come out in mid April and will be released on 12” vinyl as well as CD. This EP will feature 6 songs and we couldn’t be more excited. The songs are recorded, cover art is coming in, and everything is sounding and looking amazing. We will have more info on this towards the end of the month, so stay tuned… We’re All Broken is turning it up for 2009.
The news does not end there…

We will be hitting the road again starting in May. It has been a while since we have gone on tour, and we are looking forward to getting back out, meeting new people and sharing our new musical visions. We have been writing a whole batch of new songs and we are so excited to share, we cannot keep them under wraps for too much longer. For this reason, 2009 will also see the release of 2 additional EP’s from our band. These will come out shortly following our April release, and will be available for downloadable purchase online, anywhere music is sold digitally.

To add more fuel to the fire, we will be updating our Myspace page with new video footage from recent shows, as well as new songs!!! 2009 will be the official release of anything and everything We’re All Broken, and we are so fortunate to be able to say that these are the best songs we’ve ever written as a band. We can’t wait to share all of this with all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our band along our journey. 2009 will be an amazing ride.

We love all of you.

Frank, Joe, Casey, Jarett, and Joe

Making a video: "Like a Fish"
Category: Music
Hey everyone,

In two weeks we will be venturing into NYC to start filming our video for the song "Like a Fish"

We will be working with a very awesome dude Kevin Slack who's done 2 of The Gaslight Anthem videos. YouTube search his work and check it out. We're really excited to be working with him.

So stay tuned because I'll post pictures from the set as they come in!

"Be excellent to each other"
