Never been shopping on Black Friday, and can't say I plan on doing it anytime in the next 10 years.
last year my wife and i decided we'd try to go to best buy. she needed a computer and i wanted a 360. we did a test drive by at like 1:30 am (store opened at 4 or 5, tickets for really awesome items being handed out at 3) and the line was already ridiculous. the people at the front of the line had tents, so god knows how long they were there. no thanks, i'd rather enjoy my thanksgiving eating and watching football instead of being camped out in front of a store.

A lot of people camp out front as tradition, it's really weird. I've talked to a lot of people and they eat dinner together and then go camp out together.

Most of the sales aren't that good to warrant waking up at 4am. You can find deals just as good but more than likely better from online stores like Amazon. Save yourself the hassle and depending on what state you live in the sales tax as well and enjoy sleeping in.

That's a great deal but I'd still wait to see what Amazon is selling Blu-Ray players for. They're much lower as it is anyway so I'd imagine they'd be at least what they are in stores but obviously without the sales tax.

last year i went with my cousin for the first time, we didn't get to target (one in NJ) until like 530 am, and of course what I wanted was gone immediately (a western digital external hard drive for mad cheap) I am convinced that they didn't even have any in stock, or that they may have had 1 or 2. it's such marketing bullshit, because the big items that are cheap they will purposefully only have a few in stock. or people come and by them a few days before, and then go back and return it and rebuy it or have the price adjusted. BULBULLBULL.
the first 25 or so people on the line got free ipods. i would have sat outside for a few hours to get an ipod for nothing.

As long as I take the required rest periods each day, how would it not be? I've done it since 2005 and haven't had a problem. In 2006 I was on the management team and worked 3:30am until 11:30pm. I went home and slept for 2 hours. Probably what I'll do this year.

Well, Sears is going under. Our store manager just up and quit. He's working for Home Depot now. I used to get some overtime as a sales associate and as a manager. I used to get at least 30 hours a week there up until last April when I had to find a full time job to fill the void. I'm a commission sales person, so it was getting real slow because of the economy. Now I get 3 hours a week there. Next week, they're hooking me up. I'll probably work 60 hours between both jobs. Christmas should be good.

We did 1.2 million last year. This year we're budgeted to do 1.36 million, and my general manager thinks we'll do 1.5 million.
I don't feel as cool anymore. Thanks. ;-)

This will be my third year doing it, and as shitty as it is waking up so early, I actually somewhat enjoy it. It's funny to watch how dumb people can be, and time goes by much quicker than a usual shift.
Well, turns out I'm only going to have to work a five hour shift in the middle of the day on Saturday. I'm way stoked because a bunch of my friends got screwed into working 8 hr shifts ranging from 5am to 2am on Friday.

Best Buy doesn't price match any Black Friday ads. And they won't price match it they day after either. So don't go buy something knowing it's in a Black Friday ad and say can I price match after Friday.
EDIT: Nevermind, you work at FYE right? So yeah, forget what I said.
Haha, yeah FYE. Does Best Buy price match normally? I did not know this..

If anyone is buying stuff on eBay make sure you get the 30% discount through a live.com search. Go to live.com and for example do a search for "ps3" and at the top you will see

The 30% discount is on Buy It Now only auctions and you have to pay with paypal. You must also open up a Microsoft cashback account before you buy anything which is free and takes two minutes.
Just this week I got an Onkyo 7.1 receiver, two Polk Monitors and a center channel speaker as well as a Panasonic BD35k and I received the 25% cashback on each item. The money will process in your cashback account but it will not be available for deposit for 60 days since that's when returns are no longer accepted. For at least today though the cashback percentage has been bumped up to 30% so take advantage of this while you can.
