Anyone heard of these guys? I just found out about them last night and they're certainly interesting, if nothing else...
They're French but sing in English... the only instrumentation is piano and drums... and they list their genres on myspace as "other / classical / screamo" which sounds about right.
Check 'em out if you haven't heard of them already... http://www.myspace.com/myownprivatealaska

Really not my thing... and after the first song I don't understand how they fit into any of those genres haha.
Oh, did I mention I hate bands who say shit like "A trio that cannot be pigeonholed. Three sitting musicians. A pianist and notes that take you far, far away from all these sacrificed landscapes. A drummer, striking the beat as if today was the last day to live. And a singer, condemned to scream without respite his acute romanticism, his sly violence and his desperate nihilism... Three musicians sitting on a bomb. If there was an unhappy medium between Danny Elfman, Helmet, Chopin, and Will Haven, it would surely be on an iceberg, somewhere in Alaska." in their summaries?

Well, the songs on their myspace aren't really good representations of their sound, the album is quite different. But then again it's over a year old and the songs are newer, so maybe they've shifted their sound or something, who knows. But the songs on the album have really intricate piano parts and the structures are looser and more progressive.
And yeah their bio is retarded, but have you ever seen a new band who had a decent bio? It's all stupid soundbytes to get attention, positive or negative. I think the Helmet + Danny Elfman thing is pretty close though.
I dunno... I'm not going to freak out over them or anything. But I think their sound is pretty cool, something a bit different from the usual tired scene crap, and I think people here might like them. But yeah, different strokes for different folks.

The thing about the first song on the myspace is that it kind of gives me that "scene crap" vibe.. probably should listen to more before judging though.
