According To Arrested Development's web site (http://www.getarrested.com), the show will return this summer. Fox finally got something right.

We should start some uber grassrootsness where we get ourselves and everyone we know to take the Arrested Development pledge on the site. Summer is good but we need renewed for another season also, and another, and another. It needs good ratings!

Seeing this season fell a little bit short in number of episodes (I think they only did 18, which isn't technically a full season), I would guess that they'll finish off the season with 5 new episodes. The summer gives them time to start production back up again and make new episodes. Otherwise they'd start re-airing it earlier.

It was only 18 because Fox cut thse season short. When they cut the season short the AD writers had to basically throw away episodes that they had planned on in order to have the show progress and make sense with 18 instead of 23. That is why the most recent episodes don't fit together as well as the old ones. :( I hope they only do 5 episodes this summer though because I won't have a tv. I can't miss Arrested! Last night's episode was golden.

as long as more new episodes keep coming out we'll all be fine. I can't believe that a show with no jokes and no laugh tracks could be so hilarious. now how about Fox doing something about The Simpsons. that show hasn;t been good in years and yet it still outdraws arrested?

they just said that it is coming back this summer, that probably just means reruns. this doesn't mean that it will definitely be back for a 3rd season. supposedly around may 19th is when they are going to make the announcment regarding the show's fate. I really hope it gets renewed, arrested development is easily the best thing on television. if you have never seen it, go out and buy the first season on dvd. i think target has the cheapest price. I got mine for 25 bucks. best purchase i have ever made.

It's nice to see more AD fans here at AP. I thought the season finale was spectacular, I already watched it 3 times. I have a cautious optimism about the summer shows because it's not necessarily a renewal, but it definitely is better than nothing.
As a sidenote you guys should head to www.the-op.com for a great fansite of AD. check it out.

Arrested Development arrested?
Fox not likely to continue series
The crazy Bluth family may well have been put to rest last night, thanks in large part to viewer apathy.
ROB SALEM
It's won critical acclaim, industry accolades, Emmy honours ... and you are probably never going to see it again.
It has been universally praised as one of the funniest, most outrageously envelope-pushing comedies ever on television — by everyone but the viewing public. When it comes to those bottom-line, bill-paying ratings, Arrested Development still can't get itself arrested.
The show, which ended an abbreviated second season last night in un-bloodied, un-bowed and typically unorthodox style, is listed by Fox executives as officially "on the bubble," industry-speak for "not coming back unless someone comes up with a really good reason."
Which is not nearly as significant as who now happens to be saying it.
Though former Fox honcho Gail Berman was an early Arrested Development supporter, she has now moved on to a cushy new movie job at Paramount. Her successor at Fox, Peter Ligouri, parachuted in from cable cousin FX, has no such invested affections, and will no doubt be anxious to make his own mark with a slate of fresh new comedies (albeit shows chosen from a development list initiated by the previous administration).
One apparent shoo-in for next season's Fox schedule is the Las Vegas car salesman comedy New Car Smell, created by the sibling team of Mark and Robb Cullen, who did such a great job for Ligouri at FX on the albeit short-lived Lucky.
He also has a restaurant comedy from Sex and the City's Darren Starr, a cop comedy from Simpsons scribes Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein, and several other "wacky family" comedies to chose from, including one about a 13-year-old kid dealing with a gay dad.
So nobody's even going to miss Arrested Development. Except those few of us who actually watched it — 6 or 7 million, tops, Canada included. Which is probably just as it should be, since the show has adamantly insisted all along it wasn't for everyone, and in fact often seemed to go out of its way to alienate any poseurs or pretenders who might belatedly try to jump onto its bandwagon. And to satirically bite the hand that, with increasing reluctance, fed it.
It is surely no coincidence that, last month, when the network announced a cutback in the season order from 22 episodes to 18, there was an in-joke reference on the show to a construction order for the Bluth family business being axed by the exact same amount.
Or that, as Fox chipped away at the show, characters have metaphorically lopped off several prominent body parts: Buster Bluth (Tony Hale) losing a hand to an enraged seal; brother Gob (Toronto-born Will Arnett) hacking off a couple of fingers in a magic trick gone wrong; other brother Michael (Jason Bateman) getting his calf muscles sliced in a botched operation.
And then there was the brilliantly in-jokey moment where recurring guest Henry Winkler literally jumped a shark.
The laughs never came easy on Arrested Development — you often had to work for them. There were no laughtrack cues, no requisite punchlines-per-page, no neatly buttoned-down ends of scenes ... not even particularly likeable characters.
All according to plan. "They're unapologetic (about) who they are," showrunner Mitch Hurwitz had explained at the beginning of this beleaguered season. "And we have such fearless actors ... they play these people warts and all.
"But part of that isn't just the ruthlessness and the selfishness, but the neediness and the vulnerability. I mean, there's just so much vulnerability in every one of these performances. I credit the actors for making them vulnerable, and I credit the writers for making them hateable."
Now credit the network and an uninterested audience in making them history.
Im sure i heard that Ricky Gervais was appearing in it at some time in the future or something

Wow. that sounds almost word for word likean article I read a week or so ago.
ANYWAYS.
You can tell FOX doesnt want give up on this show. They spend ALOT of money on advertising it AND while you might complain about they cutting the episodes down it makes for a great marketing scheme since they can start the season over to go along with the new animation dominiation bullshit since people will be more likely to watch it since its sandwiched between Simpsons and Family Guy.
They're throwing everything they've got into saving it. They should be commended for that if nothing else.

well either way this is great news. im not sure what kind of a draw they expect in the summer but i'll be begging everyone i know to watch it, like i always am. god, this show is amazing. and it makes me feel good that people actually give a damn. I'm suprised this many people on the site watch it.

that's great news. i haven't been keeping up with season 2 but i have the first season on DVD and i'll probably buy the 2nd one when it comes out.
I agree with whoever said hopefully American Dad bombs. Seriously let Seth McFarlane do his thing with Family Guy, and let AD stay. I love this show, and it sucks the season was cut short.
I have a feeling it will just be reruns over the summer to test the waters, which also sucks cuz that wont gather new users, but hopefully I am wrong and this show sticks around.

Some of the jokes on the show stretch out for 6 or 7 episodes at a time, even across whole seasons. The more you watch the more it makes sense and the funnier it is.

I can't believe an AD thread went 57 posts before I even had a chance to post. Ive kinda been in state of limbo mentally since the episode aired. That episode was the true definition of bittersweet if I ever saw it. Despite all the fan efforts and critical praise it seems more likely to be cancelled than renewed. This show is the one thing I am more passionate about than music. The end of Blink, The Get Up Kids, and Northstar upset me but nowhere near how pissed I would be if they end up cancelling it. Ive been fighting the good fight writing FOX letters and trying to pimp the show online and im completely spent, now that the episodes are over there is really nothing to do that would convince FOX one way or another in their decision. It all comes down to the money, and while letters of support are nice, it is still the bottom line on if this show returns for a 3rd season.
I love how I always get in on threads that are already dead. Stupid work.

me either. :D
I tried pimping the show out to everyone, but it just seems useless. I just wish people would start watching intelligent comedy and stop watching the same boring brand of laugh track saturated crap. Hopefully, it'll get renewed. I don't know why they would show repeats over the summer for a show that was cancelled. To me it seems like one final chance to improve viewership and thats it. I could see FOX picking it up for maybe 4 episodes and see if they picked up any viewers over the summer, and that being the end of it, if not.

There will be no new episodes this summer....it will be reruns. A cheap way for the network to fill summer space that is considered dead air. Showing an episode of a show 10 times is cheaper than producing a new one each week. No matter what these episodes wont have any bearing on if the show gets renewed. That will be deterimined in May....before the reruns air....so even if they did pick up some new fans on the reruns it would be too late.
A very big if....but if we get a third season you wont see those episodes before November.
