As much as I hate to admit that I like the show, it's difficult to relate to the characters, except for the Humphreys. I like it for what it is.

Yes. I don't think they air it on the N anymore, but it was a really great show. Plus Jared Leto was on it as Jordan Catalano; I always loved the way Angela talked about him.

I think the Wonder Years did awesome, but I can't relate to it because I didn't grow up in that time period. As much as there would be high school/middle school story lines, there would also be historic ones too. I vote Boy Meets World, but I tip the hat to Wonder Years.

it's one of those shows that understands that middle america is watching and middle america will never have any of the advantages/perks that these kids do, but they still know that it makes for good tv. kids will always watch shows about things they wish they could have, but can't. it is quite addicting, i must admit.

Thank you, sir. Not that MTV is a good indicator of middle America in the overall sense, but remember when TRL was what everyone went home to watch after school? Remember when everyone would stay up to watch the World Premiere of their favorite artist's new video? Well, look at MTV now. They have put on shows like Laguna Beach, Super Sweet Sixteen, Runs House, Meet the Barkers, The Hills, Made and the most elitist show ever on MTV, Cribs. All of these shows highlight people who have money, some have more money than people like you and I could ever dream of. But look at the popularity of The Hills. It's a phenom and I think that's why people watch it. Like playing the 'If I Won The Lottery, I Would Buy...' game.

I know what your saying cause I used to like that MTV shit in like 9th grade. It lost its appeal real fast and the shows now paint a bad example for how teens should act. I think alot of those shows make you a dumber person and are irresponsible. The best thing MTV ever did was introduce people to Jackass and its spin-offs and Andy Milonakis. They also made Wonder Showzen which has a character called Middle America

While Jackass isn't necessarily the ideal show for shaping the youth of America, it was certainly different than the shows I listed. I think that the popularity of Jackass was due to the kids/people that probably weren't the target demographic of shows like Sweet Sixteen and The Hills/Laguna Beach. But, even in the midst of what Jackass was doing, they were making unGodly amounts of money. People like Johnny Knoxville were put on the map and paved the way for him to make it in other facets of showbiz. I mean look at some of the pranks that they did in the later episodes. They go from launching people out of shopping carts to building a drawbridge or skate park on Bam's parents house. The franchise of Jackass has probably grossed anywhere from $500-$750 million (just an estimate, I have no real idea). I never really watched Andy M or Wonder Showzen, but I've heard cool things about it. For me, the best show to sum up and depict a real life for kids growing up would have been a show like Boston Public (on Fox back in the day). It was based at school, so you got to see the life of kids and adults, all at the same time. It got a little far-fetched in plotlines later in the show, but the first few seasons were excellent. Having said all this, my favorite show on TV is Entourage - figures, right?

I really liked Boston Public and felt it was a very realistic show. It's a shame its not on DVD. I would love to have seen the full seasons but I only saw random episodes. Andy M is not for everybody because its the dumbest show ever. I highly recommend Wonder Showzen .My two seasons of it are my most watch DVD. If it had aired on Comedy Central it would probably still be around

Agreed. I put DeGrassi up because it was great when it started. Also, I have always loved the fact that it is so diverse. I love 90210 and The OC, but I always hated how there was maybe one minority character, so the diversity on DeGrassi is great because everybody has at least one character they can relate to.

Maybe I'm a bit young to be saying all this, but I'll just throw it all in anyway.

The older Degrassi was definitely reflective of an actual high school, but the newer one is pretty bad (yet I can't stop watching it, so typical of my age).

I picked Freaks and Geeks, though. I love Freaks and Geeks.

Yet somewhere in me I still want to say that As Told By Ginger was a great reflection of junior high life.

The Wonder Years was not perceived as a comedy whatsoever, i mean it had its funny parts but it was the depiction of teenage life in the 70's and just a teenagers life in general, and i think it achieved that much better than Boy Meets World ever did. But yes, i suppose its due to the age factor.

Yeah, I didn't really grow up watching The Wonder Years, but I did watch Boy Meets World a lot, and after it ended, it constantly ran in repeats everyday, so thats how I caught up on whatever was going on throughout the whole series. if your going for realism, surely its the wonder years, BUT BOY MEETS WORLD TAKES THE CAKE!!!! I mean come on! plus its got a Savage, and ones as good as another. I mean come on!!

I mean there are so many classic moments on that show, a personal fav was from that episode where Shawn had Cory act as the stand in boyfriend for one of the girls he was juggling, because Cory "was safe" and sure enough he wasnt and both girls catch on and tell them off, and the entire room of ppl applaud, and Shawn being what he is turns and takes a bow, only to have Cory correct him
Cory:"Why are you bowing, THEY HATE US!!"
Shawn: "oh.."-turns around-"WELL SAME TO YOU!!!!"

if your going for realism, surely its the wonder years, BUT BOY MEETS WORLD TAKES THE CAKE!!!!

Hahaha that was one of my favorite episodes! Plus Boy Meets World has something the others don't... FEENNNNY!

The Wonder Years is one of the all-time greats. This show is much better than Boy Meets World. Sad that Freaks and Geeks only lasted one season, that show was solid and showed much promise.

They were all pretty good shows. Only DeGrassi is still on air, but I don't think most of the people who voted or commented like it; they say its too dramatic. All these shows are definitly worth watching at least once though.

Agreed. I put DeGrassi up because it was great when it started. Also, I have always loved the fact that it is so diverse. I love 90210 and The OC, but I always hated how there was maybe one minority character, so the diversity on DeGrassi is great because everybody has at least one character they can relate to.

true, i dont even think they have people of differet race on the o.c. , i still love it but your right you do get diversity from degrassi, which is what they were trying to aim for

No, they never did have any minorities unless you include a few of the extras. Skins is another somewhat diverse show you can check out. It's a British show about teenagers, and even though there is a lot of sex, it's pretty good.

I love My So-Called Life. To bad it was canceled after one season.

I'm sorry, this is a fucking travesty. The Wonder Years may be before the time of most the people on this site, but that show actually captured what it was like to be a kid growing up. Secondly, Freaks and Geeks is probably the most underrated show that never got a second season. That show was amazing as well.

Well I do love Boy Meets World but it certainly doesn't portray my teenage life..I chose DeGrassi because it has so many different storylines that it touches on things that happen in everyone's lives.

I agree, but lately it has been horrible. The old DeGrassi was really good, too.
